It will be interesting to hear from Ford. I just read on the Biante website the comment was made, Ford is pulling out of V8 Supercars by the end of 2010. [sh][sh]

Doesnt sound good for DJR by that, cant beleive how fast they have flip flopped. Starting to sound more and more like a one make category. After all the hard work by the late great Howard Marsden and Geoff Polites to spread the ford money and get more teams running Falcons its all evaporated so fast. Its back to 93 - 94 when there were 4 Fords runnin round. See how the spin doctors at v8 supercars make this sound like a good thing for the category.
Totally agree maddog. The first people I thought of after it became official was Howard Marsden and Geoff Polites. Their families must be devasted and the poor blokes must be turning in their graves today. These guys dedicated their respective tenures at Ford to getting the blue oval back to where it should rightly be through passion, enthusiasm and genuine values but sadly today it appears that it was all in vain. I remember Lowndsey saying that Ford is more like a family environment, and today it has been proven that there is no loyalty (apart from DJR) and that it is all about the mighty dollar.

This has massive implications on a number of fronts;

What happens to Holden funding teams like GRM, BJR, HSV and KR?
What happens to future Ford funding? Will future $ now remain at SBR and FPR?
What happens to DJR and PCR that have a relationship with 888?
Are HRT dirty about it and will 888 take over the Holden mantle?
With such a lop-sided manufacture grid, is this the beginning of the end for V8SC's?
Who (apart from DJR) will Ford fans cheer for (or give a toss about cheering for?) SBR? FPR?
How the fark has VESA allowed this?

THIS DECISION HAS DEAD-SET KILLED THIS SPORT. WHY NOT CHANGE THE NAME TO THE COMMODORE CUP?!?!

I just cannot see how 888 can build both FG's and VE's at the same time and there not be some sort of conflict of interest. I don't see them building Falcon's for DJR so they can beat the Commodore's that 888 are buliding for themselves. Fair enough,Dane says that they supply components of various types to the majority of teams, but supplying 2 different types of complete chassis to at least(from what reprts have said) 4 different teams is whole different kettle of fish.

I have asked for an official statement from DJR on their thoughts and how this announcement will impact on the team given their current relationship with 888. I'm sure there are numerous people wondering the ame thing...
Hi guys,

I received a response from DJR. Please see below;

"We congratulate Team Vodafone on their decision. We have a commercial relationship with Triple Eight Race Engineering for the supply of equipment and parts which will continue as normal. Team Vodafone?s decision will not have any impact on the operation of Jim Beam Racing."

In essence, 888 Racing and 888 Race Engineering are seperate entity's, so maybe supplying VE's and FG's is possible?

Love your work bartman.F##k them i say.I hope Ford finally realise that DJR are worth Sponoring because without doubt they have majority of the fan base and in the end we buy their product.

Well hopefully whatever money they spent on free parts and panels for 888 can now be re-directed towards DJR...

Vodafone is the biggest and best sponsor in Australian MOtorsport. There is no way 888 needed the money from Holden.

Rolands' doing it as a big f#@k YOU to Ford, and it really pisses me off that Jamie has only decided to stay in Aus after he's found out that theyre switching to Holden...

i really really really really really hope someone else wins the championship this year

Good on you Roland stick it right up Ford.

Wonder where that grubby little gutter rat Price is now?

Guess he is stuffing some other racing series up.

Well you guys have asked most of the questions I had going through my head. To be honest, its been a long time since Ive worried about Holden v Ford thing. Ive simply become more DJR than anything else, which Im sure its a fairly safe bet all you guys would agree is the most important thing.
In saying that, I think its a real shame for the sport that 888 has gone to Holden. It stinks that firstly Holden moved Tander to HRT to get the #1 on the door, now they have just gone & done exactly the same thing, but this time had to go and buy an entire team. I always preferred the romantic notion that manufacturers had to earn their racing stripes rather than paying money for new ones.
I also think its amazing that even though the Fords are or were the team to beat, why do we now have more Holdens in the catagory, its getting really lopsided.
One more question, where the hell did the money come from??!! Considering GMH went broke & had to be bailed out by Obama Bank! That Vodaphone deal must be worth an absolute fortune!!!
I did have a laugh though thinking about how the hell is 888 now going to sell at that merchandise made for this season!
Lets just all hope DJR will be alright. Anyway, now we can say we have the best of the Ford teams!!

No problem with the merchandise as there is no Ford logo's on any of it.

Holden's philosophy is, if you can't beat 'em, buy 'em out, must've gone to the same university as Bill Gates.

Whingecup Rant:

LET me say right from the start that I fully support TeamVodafone's decision to race Holdens next year.
I am proud to say that I will be associated with the Australian icon.

However, ever since we announced the decision today, I have been bombarded with questions, especially on my website.

I could be very weak and say it's got nothing to do with me, but I honestly fully support the team with what they've done.

I personally think there are three different types of fans.

First, we have had a huge response from the Holden fans who think it's fantastic news and are welcoming us on board.

Then you have the driver and team fans who are also in favour of the decision. They see the partnership as a good one that will allow us to deliver results.

Then we have the hard-core Ford fans who are bitterly disappointed with what's happened.

I've been getting this massive abuse from all these Ford people asking why I'm not loyal to the brand, but how can you be?

I don't feel any loyalty to Ford because they showed none to me.

Once you become a bit abusive for changing manufacturers it think it's important that these people look at the facts before they get too vocal.

The fact is that at the moment we don't have any manufacturer support.

At the end of 2008 when I won my first championship I personally approached Ford and pleaded with them to come up with some type of arrangement where they could use my win to get some good publicity.

While I tried for many months to reach agreement they chose to walk away.

They weren't interested in doing anything with myself or the team.

I tried my best to align myself to them and they showed me no loyalty whatsoever.

Therefore when the opportunity came up with Holden - which they embraced with open arms - straight up it was a great decision.

The Holden product is a fantastic product and TeamVodafone builds a fantastic race car and combined they will be a powerful combination.

It's a great step forward and it's also a nostalgic step backwards for me because I started with a Holden in 2003.

I didn't enjoy the success I wanted with them, but this now gives me the opportunity to get the Red Lion over the line.

Everyone knows what a big fan I am of Valentino Rossi who won world motorcycle championships with Honda and then moved to Yamaha and won again.

Well, I hope I can do a Rossi and win with Holden, too. No one has ever won championships with Holden and Ford, so with myself having achieved most of my goals in V8s this offers brand new goals and challenges.

But first I have to focus on the remainder of this year, starting with the big job I've got ahead of me this weekend at Sandown.

If I thought this announcement would have affected my performance I wouldn't have been involved.

So after this announcement all will be forgotten until the end of the year. It will be business as usual tomorrow.

I'll go home and do my normal preparation, look at video from last year, go over the data and immerse myself on focusing on getting the car the fastest around the track.

Here's the thing - 888 Engineering company is an entirely different operation to Team Vodafone.
Therefore the engineering company should be able to build more than one brand of car equally well.

Well, I'm about to start punching people in the nose at work with all the dark side fans singing "Welcome Back" all bloody day. Man this really sucks.

However, to put a positive spin on this, remember when the 70's Ford star Moffatt left Ford for Mazda about 30 yrs ago, which inturn was the start of the rise of DJR. Hopefully history can repeat itself.

The only way Ford can save some face now and stick it to 888 and Holden is to cash up the teams that are flying the flag the highest, ie DJR #1 Ford team.

Will be interesting Gerry, I hope the Engineering side of T8's operation Is professional enough to do both equally. Just a Hypothetical, With T8 coming out publically and saying Ford shafted us, And The team publically releaseing pictures with Holden while racing a FG Falcon, And as Mitch said Vodafone is the biggest sponsor in V8SC, There is mo way T8 needed money from GMH.
Should Ford pull Lowndes from 888 this year and put him at FPR or SBR???? Richo hasnt performed well this year??
Come on Ford Do it![sa]

Its whats under the bodyshell that counts. Dont worry, DJR will continue to climb the ladder. Think back some years ago, HRT and Holden had all that money behind their operation and Dick out-classed them. DJR have some really good staff and heaps of experience. Bring on the next race.
Boys, do some web surfing see what 888 Engineering do.
We may see a one car class in the next 5 years.
