Been told a couple of things this last week.
DJR/Penske are chasing a proven "winner" and the prime target was a Kiwi currently contracted until the end of 2015. Apparently they tried to buy him out but no go with the efforts that were put into getting him back in to V8 Supercars. Penske are prepared to lease the REC for a year rather than run it for someone who they had no interest in keeping.
Now if Pye can get a sponsor to commit for more than one year he may still be a chance of staying, he has had several offers to go to other teams but he can see the long term benefits of staying put. The fact he is contracted to Dane is also a hindrance to him.
Initially Penske/Cindric had no interest in the current drivers but are now believed to be prepared to give Pye a chance if he or DJR can secure a sponsor, it will be much better for him if it's long term. This may explain some of the earlier talk of them showing little interest in the #16 REC for 2015.
Depends. If they're just fielding some plonker with no technical nous, who's just there because he brought a budget, and they spend too much time repairing and straightening that car, instead of developing the #17, then it's nothing but a distraction that they could do without.Well they'd wanna hurry up and make a call as I'm sure Super Black would want to get their ducks in a row quick smart.
Surely there has got to be a greater long-term benefit in Penske running #16 next year also? It will be tough getting a 1-car effort next year to the point of challenging for wins in 2016? 2 cars has got to be a priority...

I'd say just give it to SuperBlack for 12 months, spend the time pinning down the driver they really want for 2016, and spend 2015 developing a single car into a very good package.
I can't see that Tekno would've been a more formidable team with two cars this year, and I can't see why DJRTP need two cars to be taken seriously. Many people have said time and again that running multiple cars requires exponentially greater effort.
I don't consider Scotty a "plonker". It's not about being taken seriously...2 cars gives them more data and more opportunity to try different things, not to mention better economies of scale. Yes Tekno have been quick but they have been inconsistent too. If 1 car was preferred there would be no 2 car teams.
