Seems a bit weird having two Wilson Security cars run out of different teams. I wonder if they got on board at a bargain price knowing the tuff position DJR are in?

I personally think its a sad day, no Johnson on the grid , first time in something like 40 years.
I hope Steve picks up a quality endurance drive that puts him in a position to show everyone what a fantastic driver he really is. I would love to see him in Frosty's car, they would be a very strong combination come Bathurst

A very tiny article in todays Sunday Mail says Jnr stepping down to save the team and allowing another driver to come in and bring Wilson Security and Advam as major sponsors into the team.
Drivers name to be released later today

How much later? :D

As tough of a decision as it is not to have Jnr driving this year, if it keeps the team alive to fight another season, so be it.
I try to liken it to some of the Nascar teams where the owner doesn't drive, eg Richard Petty Motorsport.

I even heard they thought of letting young Jett have a drive, but Bargs wouldn't give up his baby seat!:D

Maybe its Bargs?[sh]

With Wilson Security "choosing the driver" could it be Daniel Gaunt who drove the Porsche under their banner. I haven't heard anything about him racing a Porsche this year, yet.

Welcome to the team, Jonny Reid!

Coming fresh off a class B win at the Bathurst 12 Hour, Jonny will be piloting the Wilson Security Dick Johnson Racing #12.

Great to see that DJR are still kicking and that they will field two cars with two young guys getting a steer. That being said, I cant help but be disappointed in the final result. What we have now is exactly what Charlie was trying to achieve 3 years ago. The only difference is that we have lost 2 crack drivers, a ton of personnel, a first class sponsor and loads of credibility in the process. DJR is now a shadow of its former self, even from 3 years ago, and surely DJ must be ruing his decision both emotionally and financially.
It will be very different this year, but I'm a glutton for punishment and once again cheer on DJR.

While this is true to an extent, it still doesnt make Charlie right. It just makes him the more influential party. Anybody can throw a tantrum, stamp their feet and cause as much collateral damage as possible on their way out the door. Even if doing so does end up in achieving the desired result in the end it doesn't mean one party was wrong, and the other right.

Don't get me wrong, both parties could have handled themselves much better, but the inability of the team to find its feet up until this point has likely got many different causes. Sure it probably makes Charlie feel somewhat vindicated too but I'm not sure that the end justifies the means.

The important thing is that DJR lives on, and damnit it is the only thing that keeps my interest going in a series which has completely lost touch with its roots for mine...

From John Bowe's Facebook page

I always watch my dear friends at Dick Johnson Racing with interest. The last few years have been tough on them as only motorsport can dish out. My other dear friends Wilson Security Racing are helping DJR get to Clipsal which warms my heart. Dick, Jill and Stevie are like family to me, as are many of the Wilson family. Their racing budget was exhausted long ago, thru their ADVAM Division they have come to DJR's rescue. I truly hope it's the start of the new beginning for them. Please wish them well! Cheers JB

Always a gentleman JB

Sounds like Wilson/ADVAM are only short term sponsors

Sounds like they are only there to get them to Adelaide. Is the "racing budget" exhausted on Brad Jones?

Watch this space...

I didn't say it makes Charlie right, and we will probably never know the truth to what went on behind closed doors. My point is the end result is the same at the expense of some major casualties.

So, we know that Nathan Tinkler is a mate of Steve's. We know that they have raced together at the last however many Bathurst 12 hours. We know that Tinkler was about to pour some money into the team when the CS sh!tfight was going on.

Now Steve is driving his Porsche for the year (which I'm sure didn't come as a surprise to anybody).

What I want to know is, why isn't Nathan Tinkler looking at injecting money into DJR? His interest in racing is obviously pretty high, he's a good mate of Steve's, he has options in being a sponsor or an investor (a silent one or a loud one).

Surely there was more to the story that was trotted out that he didn't come on board because of the publicity aspect. That story stank then and it stinks now.

Does he not get on with Dick? Are all his financial ups and downs enough of a factor? (He still runs and drives the Porsche so all can't be that bad)

He could probably get great mileage for less spend than normal due to the state of the team at the moment and at the same time help the team back in the direction it should be going.

Surely this question must have been asked around the DJR offices......just wondering why nothing has happened here.
