you guys are more in the know than me but wasn't there a serious split in the CS JC love fest after JC left everyone around him high and dry to take the megabucks on offer at HRT. I was sure I read that by sydney that year he and charlie could not even be in the same room together. I really don't see charlie ( or FPR ) welcoming JC with open arms any time soon.

You can have a serious falling out with someone, and it really doesn't take much to mend the fences to come back to a workable relationship, . . . . . . . . How long it takes for the trust to come back? well your guess would be as good as mine.

Don't get me wrong either, I'm not a hater, Charlie's world must have been falling apart at season'e end, think about it? he would have been planning to buy out relatively cheaply Dick and his family's share of DJR, pumped full of cash from the new sponsor, and with the number 1 on the side of his champion's car ready for the new season, and instead he got turfed out of DJR with a flea in his ear, lost his driver to HRT and the Number one with him and distinctly on the back foot as far as gettign a car on the grid at all. Remember he was already in discussions with FPR for a customer chassis etc by that stage.

Charlie definitely has great people skills, and will attract both sponsors and fans with ease, I'd support him as a second too if he just gets on with it and moves on.

While the boys and I were standing talking to Charlie....something bizarre happened.

Courtney's dad walked past us all, offered his hand shake to Charlie and said "gday Charlie, you need to buy me a drink", to which Charlie replied, "you know I'll do that for you anytime "jim""

I dunno what courtney's dads name is but I think that's what he said to him....he followed the exchange by telling us "who that guy was.." which was verified by our fearless leader....I wouldn't have had a clue

that's kinda where I got my dream scenario above from...

All speculation, which is fun....but, I certainly don't mean any harm to anyone by describing it...who the hell knows anyway....ha-ha.

I would in no way try to downplay Charlie's role in "saving" DJR, my issue was simply that he bullshitted. The 18 REC is Charlie's to do with what he pleases, if he wants to take the number as well as a bit of a "get square" then I think that is just being a bit petty, but more importantly, just don't bullshit about it. I think everyone needs to remember that there are two sides to every story and some of you are only basing your opinion from Charlie's view. When you bullshit about something it affects your credibility, that cannot be avoided no matter how much the guy shakes your hand and is nice to you.

Actually Jas i've based my arguments on both sides of the story

I reckon there'd be way more than two sides to this story, . . . .

I've heard stuff reputed to have come from both sides too and they're so vastly different that there has to be way more to it.

After hearing direct from the horses mouth on various issues, surrounding the Charlie attempted takeover VS the Johnson allegedly breaking of a promise to sell,. . . . I can't make head nor tail for certain of how the real story goes, and if someone knows the full deal i wish they'd enlighten the rest of us.

Couldn't agree more Vince. The whole saga is full of finger pointing and "he said, she said". However when someone makes a bullshit statement it has an effect on that persons credibility. There are probably a myriad of misunderstandings that lead to all this shitfight in the first place. I don't think the "truth" will ever really come out due to the fact that both sides have an entirely different opinion of what went down. I will stand by what I have already said in that "18" should stay with DJR and if it doesn't it is very petty.

I have not been on here since posting about the regs and am sorry I poked the bear and ran away to let you blokes fight with it.

I will always be grateful to Charlie for what he done for DJR. I know him to be an intelligent man and I have a great deal of respect for him as a highly successful businessman. I suppose I was just more than a bit annoyed when I discovered he lied to us. In fact, I think the lie is worse than actually taking #18. Would I prefer to see #18 stay at DJR? Absolutely, but I would have also accepted a genuine explanation from Charlie. I'd given up trying to work out who was right and who was wrong in the bust up a long time ago and resigned myself to the fact that we will never know the full story. The only thing I am sure of, is that neither party would be completely blameless. I've moved on.

Regardless of which side of the fence you come down on, the fact that he lied to a group of supporters that he recognises and knows to be more than your average race fan, is what I see as the issue here. The regs are a public document and to assume that we were too stupid to check what he was saying showed what he thought of us.

To Mr Schwerkolt

If you wanted to keep the #18 for commercial reasons or even because you felt entitled to it. Just say so. If there is some other reason that you couldn't discuss, then tell us "I can't talk about that at the moment." But don't lie to us. Don't treat us like a group of bogan Holden fans from the top of the mountain that you think will just swallow any shit you serve up. We are aware there are regulations, we know how to find them and believe it or not, we can read. I'm offended that you would treat a group of people that have never shown you anything other than gratitude and respect, in this way.

Please, on our next meeting, don't attempt to use the excuses of "I didn't know.", "I thought I had to take it." Don't expect us to believe that you have not read the regulations. That would be even more offensive. All we want, is to not be lied to.

Well said Mick, I had a lot of time for Charlie but after our last meeting I think he has used most of that up now. [rt][jk]

Maybe I'm being a bit harsh. Up until this incident his interaction with the fans has been very good. During his time at DJR, to many of us and more so with Poita, he has been very forthcoming and provided personal and intimate details of things not commercially available. With the exception of maybe Glenn Turnor, he was always the most approachable and friendly person in the team at that time. Maybe he was just caught off guard by the question and it was the first thing to pop into his head. Remember he was talking to a group of fans wearing DJR clothing. Maybe he was just trying to avoid confrontation. Midget is a pretty imposing figure (sorry midget, couldn't resist). Or, maybe I'm just trying to find excuses for the man.

I'm thinking of sending Charlie an email expressing our disappointment and concerns. I think if he takes it seriously enough to respond and explain himself it would go a long way to mending the damage he has done himself. If he does not respond, we have our answer.

Opinions please.

I'd be interested to hear his answer, and .. . . . . . . . i don't think it was being harsh, no one held a gun to his head and made him say those things.

Mate, not sure if you'd planned to raise the other matter with him too. I guess, if no response, who cares about the matter anyway.

If you haven't already sent it, love to see a draft.
