It's just a rumour at this stage but I got it from a very good source that Lowndes going to Holden with T8 is not a done deal. Apparently there are clauses or whatever in his contract that still give Ford an option to his services via other means rather than a Factory supported driver which we know is not allowed.

Steven Richards will not be at FPR next year and Ford bosses are trying to secure Lowndes as his replacement by taking up and option they have on his services.

Apparently as T8 have already announced they are going to Holden, this provides Ford the opportunity to exercises their option and effectively make Lowndes contract that he just signed with T8 null and void.

Ford are apparently meeting with Lowndes this week and depending weather or not Lowndes wishes to remain at Ford will depend on Ford excising their right to their option on Lowndes.

I am only passing on what I was told, I also raised the fact that Lowndes is based in QLD where T8 will remain and FPR are based I'm Victoria where I'm sure Lowndes doesn't wish to live.

Every year we call this the start of the silly season Poita! But this year it is more like "Ridiculous Season". Interesting rumour though.

Of course there are a couple of QLD-based Ford teams that would be keen on his services, one of which is rumoured to be following T8 to Holden. Of course these teams are not 'Ford' teams, but I guess one can dream. Why would CL go back to FPR? That is 5 steps backwards...

Not so sure Pete... Pretty sure it's a done deal..

Some people with serious egg on their face if this is indeed true though.. Should be worth sitting back & watching that one!!

Very interesting scenario particularly with the reported "He hasn't even picked up the phone" line.

The point was made "If" Lowndes wanted to stay, if he doesn't I'd expect Ford will make some comment to that effect.

I guess that one of the things is he would have confidence in 888's ability to build and set up a race winning car of any marque.
Would he have the same confidence in FPR?

Some how i can't see him in anything else but a 888 Commy but if the rumour is true at least that would keep one of the 888 glamour boys on the Ford side

The original rumour about 3 months ago was 888 to holden and take Hrt $ and only Whincup to resign and Lowndes to FPR. Tom is now hanging around and 888 will go against HRT. I hope not but I think Lowndes is gone but I do know he wanted to stay at Ford

Where to for Steven "Missile" Richards then???

Just a massive "hypothetical". If Lowndes was to stay with Ford and joins a QLD based Ford team, lets say DJR, that would mean that Steve would have to go. Your thoughts?

Also, how deep are Dick and Charlies pockets to be able to do this? If Ford were smart maybe they could pay for Lowndes contract and have it come under the banner of "sponsorship" and have some Ford signage on the cars as "factory backing"

If Lowndes was to stay in a Ford I would say that it would only be with a Ford supported team. So that currently would be FPR or SBR, or maybe DJR with some factory backing again.

The thing that I can't fathom is the fact that Lowndes is currently driving for a non factory Ford team, but he supposedly has a contract with Ford until the end of this year. Why didn't Ford move him at the end of last year into one of their fatory teams? Surely they could have done a deal with 888 to end his contract with that team early.

Cheers
John

I have heard that Lee Holdsworth will be partnering Rusty at PMM next year in T8 built Conformadores, so potentially no seats there...
