How much? If it still had a log book, it'd be quite something in original livery for Historics... even if it went into the museum or something!! Imagine that...

It was on a sight I found whilst looking at David Bowden's website... trying hard to find it again now to tell you. This guy finds rare and unusual cars, not only for his own means, but also for collectors such as the Bowdens... The Oldtimer Garage IIRC, but it's gone now (if that's where it was... it is fully 3 months ago that it was there...) can't remember what they wanted, but she was a bit rough around the bits

The Capri you guys are talking about was featured in issue 13 of Australian Muscle Cars. The car is owned by group C touring car fan Jim Donovan and according to AMC he plans to restore the Capri back to its 1976 Bathurst configuration and compete in Historic Group C races

Is it for sale though Doug? & does John Donnelly still own it?? I'm sure I read lately that John's son had try to buy the car back & restore it to the 1980 race car but the owner wasn't prepared to part with it. This car, in my opinion is the most important & well known car in Australian Touring Car history, I'd shutter to think what it would be worth $$$ wise. BUT... if the price was right you can count me in that's for sure.

Hi Rob, I have a mate who knows John fairly well - I will try and get the good oil on the car's whereabouts.

Because you could now race it in the Group C Historical's it would be worth an absolute fortune.
To race in this class you have to have a log booked Group C race car.
Something with as much history as the XD would be worth a lot more

I'd love to see it in its original colours... big job but, particularly if she's stripped out with the bits cast to the four winds... then again, the original heads for it came from the wreckers :D ... there'd be a few bits left at similar place would fit her!

How about the XCs? I recently saw a pic of the two DJR XC Hardtops driven by Dick and Frenchie at a Qld meeting prior to Bathurst 1978. Obviously one was the XB, I think bought from Jim Richards after Dick damaged his first one. Only one XC went to Bathurst in 1979, and was converted to a road car for Bryan Byrt to sell in exchange for the XD mechanicals in 1980. I must go back to the 'Unforgiving Minute' book and look closer at it.

The ex-Richards car was originally leased, but I think they purchased it to run as the second car in 1978 for French/Brown.

I had thought that the 1978-9 #17 car was a Byrt-built XC, and was the one they converted to a roadie and sold... are there phots of the two cars together in 1978?

Hi Guys, not that I am 100% sure - but didn't they run 2 Hardtops in 79 - when they had the giant peanut on the grid and they were chucking pineapples and the rest into the crowd??

Looked at the book. Dick built a new XC for '78 and managed to get 2nd at the Calder ATCC while Brock and Moffat were suspended. Bryan Byrt decided to spend big for Bathurst and bought Richards' old XB. Both cars were run in the reverse Cobra colours at Bathurst in '78. Dick shared the lone XC with Gary Scott in '79, peanuts, pineapples and all. No mention of what happened to the other XC, although I notice someone has 'restored' the Jim Richards' XB in Melford colours. Is this one of the Johnson XCs?

Beejay the Melfords XB is not the genuine car its a look a like. Im pretty sure that one of the XC's was converted to a road car and sold by John Harris. But have never heard what happenend to the other XC. I am not sure but is there 2 XC's that race in group C historics in Bryan Byrt colours?

Craig Harris found the final Xc in a paddock - complete with weeds etc. - maybe I should give him a bell to settle the score and also find out about the rest of the cars????

I think i know of the other XC
Belongs to a former member of the Falcon Gt Owners Club.
A mate of Craig Harris has been pestering me about it.
Seeing that Harris likes collecting old Group C racers.
As far as I know this bloke won't part with it at the moment
