THat name crops up again: George Shepheard. George was commisioned to build Jonesy an XE Falcon - which was the #7 Seiko car Bob Morris was to drive at Bathurst in 1982. Jonesy drove the car once and pronounced it a pig. He acted as team manager for the Oran Park enduro, which the car won in the hands of Morris (IIRC), and set himself up to drive an Rx-7 with Barry Jones (it was the best of the non-works cars, but never really overcame persistent gearbox troubles - which Moffat didn't suffer - the whole story there almost merits a thread of its own).

That car was the one which broke a wheel at Bathurst in the final practice section, cannoning into the Forrest's Elbow wall and bouncing into the door of an RX-7 driven by Paul Jones, who co-drove the very same XE in it's last Bathurst appearance in 1984.

This very XE was the "Kermit Mark 2" which Dick and KB took to the start line in 1983 after Dick's whopping great Hardies Heroes miscue. Small world, eh?

BUT THEN...

Dick hired the services of one Wayne Eckersley for the 1983 season to sort the recalcitrant XE rear end. He was an ex-Williams F1 spanner, where I presume he worked with one Alan Stanley Jones, Australia's last F1 world champion

How's that for a couple of degrees of seperation?

Now a new 6 degrees of seperation question:

Dick Johnson and Peter Brock have a lot in common.
List the 2 Items that PB used that is a DJR design.

the really good-looking Sierra wheels Dick had cast in 1989 (Brock got some for 1990) and the Sierra 9" diff? Last one's a bit of a stab, but to be fair (to me :D )it was a DJR design for international homolgation

That diff housing was moulded out of bog and sent to the factory for them to make the casting for the Cosworth RS 500 Sierra
