Dick's 1980 XD scared the living daylights out of the southern touring car stars on debut. While Dick built his XD's as light as he was allowed (and a whole heap lighter than anyone else's), a bit of straight line grunt sure helped. How many horsepower did the 1980 car have for Bathurst? How long did it take Dick to build another motor to match this figure?

Was this the 1 where he got someone else to take it to the scrutineers & it was deemed under weight all for the fact Dick ALWAYS went to the scrutineers with a full tank & this 1 time it was nearly empty?

No, that was the second car -- the inital homologated weight for the XD was 1360kg, which was the weight of a stripped out taxi-pack six. I reckon it would've taken a bit of paring to get her down to that, but it was an effective way of maximising the horspeower advantage of the 351 over the 308 Holdens.

By the way, the first XD had 411 hp, which wasn't matched for another 18 months.
