He said WHAT?!?? RaceCam quotes

  • 1. "Your knowledge and input is always welcome but please respect the team, the drivers and other members. Abuse or harsh criticisms will not be tolerated".

    2. "This forum is designated 'Family Friendly' - (ie. we have young & impressionable readers - even if they're not Members/Posters) - therefore language must be moderated! - (how would YOU feel about YOUR 9 year old reading it?)

    3. "Use of characters (eg. #$*@!) that only 'partially' disguise an intended vulgar/offensive word(s) is unacceptable!
If you MUST express yourself in such a manner... use ***** and let the reader's imagination 'fill in the blanks'."

    Thank you for your cooperation.

DJ was world-renowned for his RaceCam on-camera poise and banter, ever-ready with a quick quip or a gag, and admirably frank about the car's condition, his position and the way the race was going. Below are a couple of notable quotes from Dick, some intentional, some not. Name the year he said them, and the car he was in.
1. "You can rev the pickhandles out of these mothers"
2. "This thing's such a dog, we should've left it chained to the fence"
3. "It never rains, it bl**dy-well pours"
4. "This race is like the Irishman who won the tour de France: he had to do a victory lap"
5. "Did you see what that p***k did to me?"
6. "Yeah, well the headlights have got stickers all over them. If it keeps going like this we might need a couple of Dolphin torches with those stick-on doobies"

J.C. your video collection sounds fairly comprehensive/ You've nailed the first couple, and it sounds like it won't be long until you've got the others either!

I think we've got it covered:
1. 1982, the Red-Roo XE
2. 1983 Kermit Mk2
3. 1984, chatting to former MP John Brown as a driveshaft let go
4. 1986, Greens-Tuf Mustang
5. 1989(?) After being T-boned by Richard Petty in a NASCAR race
6. 1992 in the Sierra during one of the many pace car periods.

There are SO many great one-liners that came from Dick's RaceCam days; feel free to add more that you can remember!

How about in reference to the CRC 300 at Amaroo Park. "It's like Robert De Costella running a marathon around his clothes line".

2. 82 Bathurst Falcon XE
3. 84 Bathurst Falcon XE
4. 86 Bathurst Mustang
5. 89 Thunderbird Winston Cup
6. 92 Bathurst Sierra in the middle of a thunderstorm

ive got a couple.

where, what car, what year

1) The old girl needs a bit of a tart up now.

2) you know what it's like, you let the old smoulderer's in and things like this happen

1st one is exactly what was said, the second is pretty acurate but excuse me if it isnt 100% correct.

Correct. Straight off the True Blue video this afternoon. Wasn't Symmons plains the first race in the ATCC in 1985 ?

Wazza's quote was from a lap at Lakeside, similar to what Ch10 do with Murph, Skaife etc, etc, except I don't think they commentate from the car anymore. The lap in question featured a great slide too! Big Col: love your avatar... your car perhaps?

Anothr of my favourites was " Mate, I'm busier than a one-armed paper hander in a high wind!"
