In all seriousness though, if JC and Scotty join Adrian and leave DJR as well, the person I will be most disappointed to lose is ATB.

Adrian is an absolute class act and always has time for a chat and a laugh. He is highly respected and can be credited with keeping the team motivated and focussed during the recent turmoil and uncertainty.

After he signed with 888 he could have been forgiven for his attention being elsewhere or for not putting in 100%, but he was the guy that wanted it as much as JC and wanted to depart DJR after having won a Championship.

Sure Charlie came in at a time when DJR was on the canvas, but I largely credit DJR's resurgence over the past few years to Adrian's engineering ability and sheer professionalism in the role of Sporting Director.

Massive blow for DJR and a huge void to fill but Adrian will always hold a special place in DJR history.

Sorry Rob, I dissagree!

Yes he done an Ok job! but there is only 1 team that regually had the same speed to take it to T8 and that was FPR. I don`t think he could quite do the job of getting 2 cars to perform at the top and it took him a long time to crack the code. Dane knew he was close to it and bought him before 2011 rolled around. If Burgess had of stayed at Djr then I think we would have seen 2 cars at the pointy end all 2011.

To my way of thinking that would have been a better move for him but now he will not get credited for any thing at T8 because R.D. is the man there.

Mate I disagree with your disagree :) To extract what they have from both the BF's and FG's considering the budget differences between DJR and T8/FPR is a massive achievement that can't be understated. Compare the DJR of now to the DJR of 2006 when Adrian came on board...Light years apart. Heck, we even got a record breaking championship this year and have finished runner up in the Teams Championship for the past 2 years, one of which was without factory support.

It also goes way beyond this. Im also talking about a person that can engage a team and create a harmonious working environment. Not too long ago DJR wasn't the happiest of workplaces. I stand by my earlier comments.

The thing that Rob points out here that is an absolute must is team cohesion and that's what Adrian Burgess seemed to do, everyone was given equal time and allowed to excell at their job even if it was just driving the semi, andthat's really important, sure the big hugs and pats on the back for the winner look good, but being allowed that space to perform your task and get it right that's a must, I hope some people aren't confusing the role of SD with that of Owner because they are not the same.

I'm pretty sure it was the calm direct voice of AB that got the work done , all the peices that needed to happen and put it all together and get the car back on track on saturday arvo, in time to get points, I think the team excelled that day and showed what they are really made of but I also think that without direction, from Burgess, they may have been calssed DNF quite easily, and thats why Tr888or want him, (out of the opposition).

I will be sorry to see him go because at the time they brought him in it was a big expence out of a very limited budget and he has proved his value over and again.[bw]

As today is ATB's last day at Dick Johnson Racing, I thought it fitting to create a thread dedicated to farewell messages for Adrian from DJRClub17 members. Please post your messages here;

I guess there are a couple of Questions that Burgess would have had to ask himself when the offers began comming in (I'm sure with JBR's results this season which have been building over the years since ATB came to DJR there have been more than a few) weren't there, like Is there any future for me in F1 and by that he would mean a career future not just a short term contract with an also ran team, second, which category do i personally prefer? maybe he likes our old fashioned tin tops better that F1, and third, Moving on from here is going to be tough, so how do I do better than this? and it would have to be into a way better funded team, he has always said dollars (in the hundreds of thousand's of) means speed.

I have to give him credit, he seems to have stayed honest to the team, to the fans of the team where possible, and stayed true to himself.

Good luck , I'm sure Tr888or will welcome you with all due ceremony, . . . maybe you can convince them that the move to the "dunga-dore" was what cost them the championship, . . . . [crackup]

Adrian, as a long-term fan of DJR, and motorsport, THANK YOU so much for everything you've done at "our" team in your time here... I'm sure that we all wish you were staying, but all the best for your future!

There are a short list of people who we as DJR fans will ALWAYS remember fondly, guys like Frenchy, John Bowe, and of course Tricky Dicky himself... last Sunday you added your name to that list (along with JC)... no matter what you go on to achieve for Holden and 888, you will always have a special place in the hearts of all DJR fans... your are DJR for life!!!

Thanks for everything mate..

I have to agree with Rob, the guy is a class act both professionally and in the way he has treated us guys, he will be sorely missed at DJR and in my opinion will be harder to replace than JC.

At the end of the day, his decision to move on was more than likely motivated by the unknown, i.e. am I going to have a job next year?

Like all of us we have to keep a roof over our heads, feed our children and live the lifestyle that we want to, so good on him.

Good Luck to Adrian in the future and thank you for all you have done.

Sounds like Roly-poly Dane is actually going to step down quite a bit next year, Burgess will be in effect taking over from him as SD , . . . could be a good gig for him after all.

Now if only he was to get them back to Ford . . . . ..
