At Lakeside in 1987, only the 3rd Australian Race Meeting for the Sierra Cosworth, DJR were penalised for shaving 30 1000ths of an inch off the Turbines which allowed them to run more boost. Dick came from about 6th position gradually passing each car down the front staight and sending the local crowd into a frenzy. Both cars failed to finish the race but it wasn't due to the Turbo's blowing. Other components within the turbo couldn't handle the extra boost and failed.
Dick received a 1 week suspension for this indiscretion whilst his team mate, the late Gregg Hansford was only suspended for 24 hours as he was considered to be a 'driver only' as opposed to Dick who owned the team and was involved in some elements of engineering.
Dick later blew the Lakeside Turbo at the Surfers Paradise Round where he bagged pole position by completely shutting off the waste gate (full boost), with the Turbo letting go on the 1st lap through the esses.
The Turbo Dick used for the first win anywhere in the world for the Sierra Cosworth at Adelaide International Raceway in 1987, blew up in a massive way at Amaroo Park later in the year.
In August 1 that year, the Sierra Cosworth was upgraded to full RS500 spec receiveing a new front spoiler, an larger lip on the rear wing and a much bigger turbocharger.
At Bathurst that year, after Hardies Hero's, Dick's 2 Ford Sierra RS500's were found to be running with illegal fuel (the result of an octane booster) and were relegated to 9th and 10th positions on the grid.
Of course Bathurst 1987 was a disaster with both cars failing within the first 4 laps with Neville Crichton riding the wall into The Cutting after coming together with LP and Dick losing a Diff at Reid Park.
I think that just about covers it Bartman
