One thing i've learnt watching Bathurst over the years is never ever take it for granted that a good result is there for the taking.
To many memories of good results gone begging.
68 Holed radiator while leading easily
69 Pulling Moffat in to look at his tyres that where perfect
72 French spinning the GTHO while in the lead
80 The Rock
83 Greenstuffed
95 Seton taking out #17 only for his hand grenade to shit itself within sight of the flag
The list goes on with Longhurst and then Radisich feeding horses and then a few years later leaving the 888 puss bucket on the track after an upright failure bringing out the safety car and gifting a win to shitbag Murphy and last but not least Ambrose on an a charge only to be taken out by that grub Murphy .
There's a lot of missed oportunities there and i take it as it comes and don't bother hyping it up because absolutely anything can and does happen
Bigcol, you are exactly right.
If everything went to plan... would the Mount draw such as following? Have as much drama? Would teams and drivers work as hard to get everything 100% spot on?
I think not.
We all know it?s a tough and long race...We should expect the unexpected. That is the beauty of Bathurst, and when ANYTHING can happen... it means ANYTHIING can happen.
I always thought Mount Panorama is like a cranky woman. Once you think you have tamed her... BAM! ... She punches you in the nose just to make your eyes water wondering what did I do wrong.
Think of her like the characteristics of the race track. It?s a long steep climb to the top and once you have reached the top... you better hold on, because it?s a very scary and fast downhill ride all the way back to the bottom.
