V8 Supercars Australia (V8SA) Executive Chairman, Tony Cochrane, unveiled the 2009 television commercial today (Friday) which can be viewed online here at the official V8 Supercar website.

Cochrane and Crowe, famous for movies Romper Stomper, A Beautiful Mind and his Academy Award-winning appearance in Gladiator, sealed the deal in London last month where the actor has been filming Robin Hood.

Crowe was born in New Zealand and raised in Australia. Besides his fame as an international actor, he is also known for his love of rugby and co-owns the South Sydney Rabbitohs National Rugby League team.

?Having such a great Australian icon in Russell involved is an enormous benefit to the sport and this race,? Cochrane said.

?This is one of many substantial announcements we are working on this year and next as the sport of V8 Supercars continues to break new ground.?

Cochrane, who in June stated he believed the V8s will one day overtake NRL in television ratings, said V8SA has also agreed to become the sleeve sponsor of the Rabbitohs.

?In talking with Russell it became obvious that there was also an opportunity for these two great brands to work together in a broader partnership,? he said.

?The enormous passion of our millions of fans is very much like those of the Rabbitohs, so it made perfect sense to extend the partnership across both organisations.

?For us this is a step forward in cross promotion between two iconic Australian sports in the NRL and V8 Supercars.?

Rabbitohs Chief Executive Officer, Shane Richardson, said becoming a major corporate partner of the South Sydney Rabbitohs was about more than having your logo on the team?s jersey.

?The Rabbitohs have some of the most loyal and passionate members in the game and the passion that V8 Supercars supporters show at every race meet is second to none,? he said.

?There are plenty of synergies between our organisations and we?re very excited about being able to work with another professional sporting organisation such as V8 Supercars to expand both of our businesses.?

Cochrane is absolutely delighted with the commercial that features Crowe for this year?s Bathurst.

?Having his brand associated with one of the world?s legendary battles is a perfect fit,? he declared.

The Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000 is on at Mount Panorama, Bathurst, from October 8-11. For all ticketing inquiries contact Ticketek on 132 849 or visit ticketek.com.au

He can hang around 888, he likes phones !

I hope the V8 Drivers don't start behaving like the NRL boys.

But surley VESA can put the sponsorship $$$ to better use ?

Like giving more back to the traditional tracks to improve facilities or perhaps sponsoring some up and comming drivers in the Fijutisu series

OR Giving Sonic some money so we can see James Moffat and Grant Denyer race at Bathurst on Sunday !

I agree, we don't need to hear a "star's" voice promoting this sport, it is a waste of money which could be put to better use as you say.

Actually I will have to add, we don't need Cochbrain either, the self serving, blowharding, big head with the speach impediment is also costing the category dearly, he's not creating the motorsport of the people , we already had that, he's trying to make an eletist category out of what should be a contest between the family taxi's we all drive on a regular basis.
Cochbrain likens himseft with the biggest movers and shakers in the world of motorsport when in reality he's just the stutterer and spitter who is responsible for making it too expensive to get the average team reasonably competitive on race day.

TC should go to USA and have a look at how Mike Helton runs things, by no means is he perfect nut he understands racing and the fans.

I wonder hoe TC will handle the ban on Alcohol sponsorship when it eventually comes in.....I can just see it now...."We always had intentions to have a 22 Car field, its been part of my planing for years"

The sport is dying and need a urgent Management transplant.

I think Russell Crowe has a great Australian voice for an Iconic Australian Motorsport event. Can't really comment on the $ he was paid but I'm more concerned about the ad. Anyone would think the only team in this years event is T8 and the only driver competing is Craig Lowndes. Great ad...NOT!!!!!!!

Argee with Rob, I thought it was an AD for T8 and Lowndes as well, most of the clips of the cars and tracks had bugger all to do with Bathurst.

It couldn't of cost them that much... they used the year before with Craig running on dirt road. insert some clips of action and hey presto you have a 30 sec and 1 min add that has cost the sport sh!t loads of coins.
