Geez, haven't done this for a while so bear with me....

For a long time now V8's have ran with window nets in their drivers door & it's almost mandatory in every type of racing around the world now days in 2008. Can anyone remember which team first ran a car with a window net in the ATCC/V8sc series, what year did this happen & to be a real pain in the arse, what track in Australia was it first used on????

1st part 100% correct mate. DJ was indeed the 1st driver to use them in the ATCC/V8sc.

Any takers on year & track??

I think it may have been '94 after the Bill O'Brien crash at Bathurst and DJ's head hit the wall.

Not exactly sure though.

I wouldn't have guessed DJ but I think they were around in the late 70s.
I think Brock had one in the A9X days???

I don't remember Brockie having one in the A9X nascar. Would have been no good to him anyway as most of the time he had his arm out the window trying to get lapped traffic to move out of the way.

RJ is on the money & 1994 is definately the year, so working out the track should be relatively easy from here. It indeed did have a lot to do with the 93 Bathurst crash & that combined with Tony Longhurst having a big crash in Wellington where Tony's helmet actually came out the Bimmer's window & touched the concrete wall.

Any takers on the track?, & I will check on the A9X Nascar!!

I have a poster with actual photos of all his Bathurst cars, there were no nets in any of his Torana's.

In 93 Bathurst should have been the last race for the year?So would it have been the first race of 94?

I think they ran the AGP race after Bathurst in 93 buddy, but DJ didn't run that race IIRC as he had no ride after the Bathurst shunt. So yes, that would mean he used it for the 1st race of the 94 series which was where.. ?????? ????

Couldn't find any shots of the A9X with a Net either. Checked back through the 77, 78 & 79 Series. So if he did run one, it must have been a one off!!

You are right Rob, refreshed my memory a little. It was the END of '94 when Larry and JB had that almighty stoush in the rain at Adelaide IIRC.

This was back when the triple challenge was on at EC but I can't recall DJR ever entering that so I guess it would have been Round 1 2004. IIRC Amaroo Park was the opening round in the early days. The first race would have been the Peter Jackson Dash.

Give the man a prize!!!! Well done RJ.

I still have that Adelaide race on tape somewhere too mate, it was an all time classic & I can still recall Skaife out of control down the end of the back straight & shooting down the escape road at a great rate of knots. Those last 3 laps between Bowe & LP were some of the best stuff I can recall.

Some privateers had used them sporadically many years prior... the 1981 Great Race book shows an Escort at Hell Corner with netting fitted...

I haven't come across that Henry so I apologise if I'm slightly incorrect, but I think it pretty fair to say that it was introduced full time by DJ at Amaroo in 94, & followed shortly after by Bowe & then the entire field.

I think they were mandatory for 95 IIRC & Seto was one of the last full timers to commit to using one!!
