Vote 1 - DJ Qld Sporting Icon

  • 1. "Your knowledge and input is always welcome but please respect the team, the drivers and other members. Abuse or harsh criticisms will not be tolerated".

    2. "This forum is designated 'Family Friendly' - (ie. we have young & impressionable readers - even if they're not Members/Posters) - therefore language must be moderated! - (how would YOU feel about YOUR 9 year old reading it?)

    3. "Use of characters (eg. #$*@!) that only 'partially' disguise an intended vulgar/offensive word(s) is unacceptable!
If you MUST express yourself in such a manner... use ***** and let the reader's imagination 'fill in the blanks'."

Neither am I!!

After no difference to the published results after the first week, I decided to experiment.
I voted in all categories all of the time just to see if any of the votes made a difference in any of the categories. My thinking was that at least one of the icons I was voting for would have to be close to the top 3.
I had various reasons for voting in each section. In other words, my vote was not necessarily the one I thought deserved it, but as I said it was an experiment.
As it is coming to a close I thought I would make my selections public.
They are:-
Joh Bjelke-Petersen
Billy Thorpe
Dick Johnson
Breakfast Creek Hotel
Magnetic Island
Kuranda Scenic Railway
1974 Floods
Polio Treatment
Mt Isa Rodeo
Qldr House

There's only a few days to go and I wonder if there's any difference.

Didn't know they had a section for the "most corrupt Politician"
or worst ever import from New Zealand

If they did beattie would still win, even though he's not from NZ, and Bligh would be close second.

Right in the middle - 7 in front and 7 behind. Would have been interesting to know the count.
CATEGORY 3: Sports legends

Those Queensland greats that have made a significant contribution to sport in our State.
1 Wally Lewis
2 Cathy Freeman
3 Pat Rafter
4 Rod Laver
5 Allan Border
6 Greg Norman
7 Susie O'Neill
8 Dick Johnson
9 Allan (Alfie) Langer
10 Gunsynd
11 Mal Meninga
12 Grant Hackett
13 Matthew Hayden
14 Kieren Perkins
15 Mick Doohan

Beat a world champion motor bike rider, couple of olympians, a mega run scorer, an Origin great, current Origin coach and a dead horse.

Not too shabby![bc][thumb]

Thanks to all that voted [thumb]

I reckon Dick did well given the likes of Alfie Langer, Kieren Perkins, Mal Meninga, Mick Doohan, etc were behind him.

Well deserved DJ. You truly are an Icon [bc]

I noticed he was right to the forefront yesterday when Anna Blah announced the winners.
Well, she stuffed that up too - just like everything else.

It seems the whole thing was a setup from the start, hands up anyone who voted for Cathy Freeman. I have yet to find one person that did. Most people I have spoken to picked either Greg Norman, Wally Lewis, Alan Border or Rod Laver. Even Susie O'Neill was only selected by two people where I work in our own poll we ran for Sporting Legends and we had three choices.(113 people voted)

On the news they just said that 30000 people voted for the top 150 icons.
If we did a quick bit of maths and added up how many times we voted I reckon we would make a fair dent in that figure!
