For anybody who is too young to know, the title refers to the Don McLean song American Pie, about the plane crash that killed three American rock'n'roll stars. The premise is that music was never the same after those losses.

I am starting to feel that day happened when Roland Dane said his racers will not be Fords in 2009, after losing the FoMoCo sponsorship. It's not about passion for Ford or Holden anymore. How can it be when the only parts of the car to come from Broadmeadows or Fishermans Bog are the windscreens?

For me what Dane said inked-in that it is now about teams. Did Ford win Bathurst and the championship? Or was it 888? How many of us now REALY think that what Tander drives is a piece of shyte? Or is it just a good racer prepared and driven by a bunch of tools in red?

Whadda ya think?

To be truthful, it isn't the holden's themselves that I don't like; It's the way they market to the lowest common denominator in society and they way they market their V8 teams including their attitude and the public barrage of pure shite that they all speak when given an opportunity that puts them in the position of underdog when they have the biggest budget, the most R&D, and to my mind the favour of the regulators.

I just don't get why people want to be one of the flock who blindly accept the utter rubbish and poor treatment dished out by Holden as far as their products and service, or for that matter their V8 teams.

The Ford / Holden thing definately drives the red fan big time compared to the blue side, and it's like they have a chip on their shoulder about inferiority and have to take on the world to prove they are better, and don't care how small or pathetic a victory is, and always gloat about it.

I don't think the music dying has a lot of relevence to V8's it more like the cops pulling the plug on the band that's a little too loud, but no ones complaining about.

Got to say i agree with what TS50 had to say.

Beejay yes it has shifted away from the manufacturer but apart from panels and engines it is their own handy work.

Dane and Whingecup have carried on like spoilt brats who lost their toys.
If they perform like they did last season they can get the knives out for Ford but the fact that they did it last year with Ford money shows me what a bunch of whinging c@#ts Dane and Whingecup are.

As far as the Commys go. Well they'll always be shitboxes because of one thing.
It's the badge.
It stands for all things that have ever been corrupt about Aus motorsport. It stands for the cheating and manipulation of the rules. It stands for we are bigger than the sport and we will do what we like and tosspots in the Ivory tower will bend over for us when we want and last but not least it stands for a win at all cost attitude regardless whether there is any sportsmanship in it or whether it is good for the sport or not.

I have to say that from the perspective of somebody who grew up with Group C and A, the current silhouette/sports shut formula is a play for the lowest common denominator, fanbase-wise.

The essence of what Dane said is true, as the cars are a flat-pack of cut-and-shut panels tacked around a rollcage/spaceframe, made to resemble the roadgoing vehicle. For all that, it's what we've got.

From the point of view of componentry, at least Ford can claim engine manufacturer laurels, as the five-litre Henries are at least Ford-proprietary (at least design-wise), whereas the Holdens are Chev-powered... I'd be surprised if too much of the hardware comes courtesy of the manufacturers anyway.

For mine, the writing was well and truly on the wall well before Roland Dane croaked out a couple of choruses...
