I went along for half the day and met up with TS-50 later in the day.

The cars looked great and went rather well, although the SBR cars seem to have a sound all of there own. No problems or incidents from anyone whilst I was there.
#4 car looks a lot better in its current livery, I think they have made the blue and yellow slightly darker than the original paint scheme.

I didn't get any times at all but the AU and Denyer cars looked very impressive in their speed. The AU even seems to run around QR much smoother than the BA/F Falcons

Had a good chat with Dick who said some changes were still to be finalised, no news yet on a team manager but he said the new engineers had brought some fresh ideas to the team which so far are working well for both cars. Dick also said he was very happy and pleased with the way things were going, he feels the team is in for an improved year. Overall I got the impression he was very glad last year is behind him and so far this year is improving week by week.

I have never been one to bag Steve but geez he could do with some of his fathers PR skills, I asked him if I could take a picture of him and the other drivers and he didn't even answer or acknowledge me. I then asked Dick and he said not a problem and even moved into the sun for a better picture. He came over and spoke to me for about 10 minutes after that and apologised to me as he was a bit rushed earlier.

Dick had his own drive car there, a white DJR 320 which has been further enhanced to be a DJR 430. (He said with a big grin on his face)

Paul Morris's team has merged with TKR but from what I could see they have lost a lot of sponsors from both teams, no sponsors at all on the Rat's car not even the standard Oil company sticker.

SBR and DJR were really looking forward to Adelaide, Team TKR/Morris crew didn't sound as keen as the others.

I will send some photos to Mitchell to upload, below is a link to a mates website which has better quality pictures than mine.

Vince it was a pleasure, it would be great if a few more of us could get together, somehow.

I'm so glad that Poita and TS-50 attended the test day. Once again the DJR site has dropped the ball. Without you blokes we wouldn't even know if the test went ahead.

Thankyou.

Great report on the test day Poita. I have to make it out to one, one day.

I wouldn't be too hard on Junior, of course I wasn't there to see what he was like, but it was a team test day that you attended. Basically the guy is at work. Though Dick is the PR master in the team, we've all heard stories when he wasn't easily approachable to all.

We are lucky we, the public, are allowed to attend these sessions, I imagine they could quite easily hold a closed session.

Nascar12 ; We are lucky here , during test days there is virtually no restricted acces areas ,and the team blokes will tell you what they are doing and what they're testing for ( up to a point). You can walk in and around the pits and stand out on the pit wall for photo's . One thing , be careful where you park , the pop at flat gear changes will set off your alarm.

As i said on the DJR forum , at the Ford Breakfast Steve seemed relaxed and was happy to talk and quite ok with going to the set up area for photo's , so I hope this incident with Peter is a one off.

I'm sure that Steve was just preoccupied. His workload on a test day must be huge as the lead driver. Between his driving duties, reems of data to look over and discussions with engineers it would be a rather pressure filled day.

I have always found Steve to be very approachable at the track, although I have only ever spoken with drivers after the final race on a Sunday at which time I think the pressures off.

On one occasion I came down with food posioning on a race weekend and remained at home, a mate of mine dialed my number and handed his mobile to Steve when he spotted him in the pits. I got the shock of my life when I answered my phone to find Steve Johnson on the other end. He chatted to me for a few minutes about the race while I was watching the end of the delayed telecast at home.

I'm sure you caught him at a bad moment Poita, he's just an ordinary bloke and like everyone else has his moments. I hope you have a better experiance next time. Again, thanks for the report.

Guys don't get me wrong, I don't hold a grudge or dislike Steve I just thought he could have been more approachable at that time. They were in a group having a laugh when I asked him for the photo. (as you will see by the photo in the gallery) As TS-50 said hopefully it was just a one off and maybe Dick is an exception to the norm when it comes to being open and approachable.

As I also said in another post, maybe he just didn't hear me.

Cheers guys and thanks for the feedback.

No worries Poita, understand you perfectly, like meeting with most people, it can be hard to pick the right time for both parties.

Great effort there with the pics also, Thanks for sharing with us.

Did you get any scoop on the road cars e.g. is "01" juniors and is DJR16 specced up to "320"?

I was only told at later that 01 was Jnr's car, still not sure who owned DJR16 but it looked pretty stock. 01 is an FPV F6 Typhoon also looked to be in stock trim. Dick was only keen to tell me about his car, (I did ask him about 01), but he did say that the DJR320's are selling well and there is still a huge demand for them.

Jnr mention today that the cars are pretty different from last year, with completely different suspension pick up points. He also said that the engines are in line with other top teams & not the problem...

Let see if there changes have made the difference..

Send an email to Melinda Harvey at DJR. She is the person that gave me all the details for the last test day.
