With the recent Team Dynamic illegal test and lots of other rumers is the limited six test days a year a good thing.
After watching the last round at sandown, the quality of some of the driving and perfomance of some of the teams makes me think maybe a change should be made.

Something needs to be changed Billy. I still cant understand how a team like FPR didnt have a test day until I think it was after the 3rd or 4th round. Thats bloody crazy. Thats like starting your pre-season for footy just before the finals. Id definately rather see all team firing on all cylinders from the Clipsal on, rather than seeing team underachieving early and ruining any chance they have for the Championship.

I'm sure it was done with good intentions, but it doesn't stop teams with lots of dollars from spending it. Investments in simulation software and testing rigs means that the teams with dollars can still spend it to do development work. I think its now time to loosen up on the number of days of testing and let the medium size teams catch up a bit. BJR are probably a prime example of a team who could do with more testing days to become competitive.

Leave it as it is.
When there was no testing bans the rich teams just tested more and more till no one could catch them.
I think a good way around this would be to grant an extra practise session's at each round based on the previous rounds finishing position's. Position 1 to 10 no extra practice, Position 11 to 20 1 1/2 hrs extra practice. Position 21 onwards 3hrs extra practice.
With 2 car teams all extra practice is worked out on the position of the highest placed car and used rubber can be used so you don't kill your race rubber

Gret idea Col - Aletrnatively, adopt the F1 model, whereby teams can elect to forego test days to enable a third driver to run for them on the Friday of race meetings.

Col we talk a lot about this at work and i think thats the best idea so far.
For the v8supercar series the remain the best its got to have more then just a few teams performing well.

Can someone explain to me why FPR didnt test? Surely they had enough money... Were the cars not ready, or something?

Mitch Ive been asking that question for months and Big Col is the only person who could give an answer. He actually posted his reason on this site about probably 3 months ago, which topic it was under I cant remember.

Mitchell if you haven't got anything new to test it's a waste of time.
With all FPR's well publicised problems ,cars not ready, shifting buildings, at one stage they didn't even have enough engines to do a test day.
The Grand Prix is a great thing for the V8's, it allows the teams to see if anybody has made any gains during the off season.
Most teams treat this as test days anyway.
Nearly all the teams debut new cars just before the endurance races, not at the start of the season, so testing before the season starts really has no advantage and just uses up one of those precious test days
