Anyone see the news story tonight regarding Steven Johnson.

Mate just emailed me with the following details....

"Story on the news tonight states Steven Johnson may be on the move. Dick wants him to stay but Steve said he will do what's good for the team and himself."

I have also seen this mentioned on another forum.

Settle guys. How many times have we heard this before? I really can't se Steve going anywhere else. 17 without a Johnson? Spare me!

He may not have a choice, i know Dick says that he still owns 50% of the team, but i have been advised from a reliable source that it is much less than this. If he does own less than 50% they will never say so as they want to trade on the Dick Johnson name and fan base. Who would follow this theam if it were only owned by Charlie?
My understanding is that Steve's drive is much less secure as Dick does not have the final say, sure would be a stupid business decision to let him go to another team though.

Surely if the rumours are true, and Will is moving on, wouldn't DJR try to do as much as possible to keep Stevie? I mean, we have seen with other teams in the past how much driver/staff movements can set teams back. With 2 new cars, and possibly 2 new drivers, chances are DJR might struggle in 2009 to get on top of things from the get go.

Collectively as a group we should be letting the powers to be at DJR know that the true DJR supporters want to see Steve Johnson behind the wheel of car 17.They should be made aware that slotting in another driver could have a negative effect on their fan base. As a true DJR supporter i would like to see the second generation Johnson win Bathurst of the championship in a DJR car.

for sure certain drivers come and go from 18 but in the end show their true colors. Stevie J in 17 thats the way this team should be.

i don't agree.
Will and Crashney would make an awesome pair.

If Steve is still here next year all well and good, but if he doesn't cut it an FG and the other driver does. He should give up the game then and there. No if's and buts. No excuses

I'm with Col: DJR got to where they were - or where they used to be - by having fast drivers... it was a remarkable turn of coincidence that the lead driver was one of the blokes instrumental in building the cars, and it was done under his house, and his missus did the timing and fed the team.

Being the "family" team doesn't get you up the front where we were once used to seeing the team: and respectfully and politely I would say that if a family team floats your boat, Brad Jones Racing needs you! We've heard all sorts of scuttlebutt about Junior this and that over the years, but the time is well and truly on him to either shit or get off the pot for the next fella to have a go.

I desperately want him to do well; I think the big fella can drive, and yeah I'd love to see a Falcon with the #17 on the door and the Johnson name on the window taking the field apart... but no more or less than I'd like to see Jason Bright pull his team to the front end, or SBR do what they did in the Ambrose years.

Yeah, I've been a DJR fan for nearly 30 years, but there's not been consistent results to cheer about in a loooooooong time. Would've been great to have kept Wilbur, but hopefully the team builds a synergy with James so that they can inspire and drive each other to better results than we'ev seen of either in a while.

I think Steve needs a year in an FG to prove himself, then he will have no excuses. I agree with everything you said Henry but I would still want to see Steve in 17 up the front before anything else.

I personally think Junior has been given many chances to rise to the top, and on many occasions, has failed dismally - sure he is consistant and keeps the car clean, but Jim Beams commitment to the team, in my opinion, should be rewarded with more results than are currently being gleaned by DJR, or moreover, car 17. I would love it to be a better scenario, and see Stevie on a roll but I cannot see it changing.

You guys sure have a short memory.

Those closing laps of Bathurst 2007 showed Steve has what it takes.

If DJR supplied a front running pair of cars and he had stuffed it, i'd agree.
