I am a Wynnum Manly Boy and I had to go to Suncorp for the game. I did what my dad did in 95. I took my 3 boys to watch WN get the grand prize. Atmosphere was awesome
I was there with my neighbour.
Both got home a bit pissed
As much as i love the Broncs. Wynnum is really my team.
I'm a former wynnum junior
I was there in 82, 84, 85 when they lost, 86, and 95
Would go and watch them play whenever i had the chance during the eighties.
Now i only go on the big occassions or when the neighbour talks me into going
That 84 side would have beaten any club side in the world at the time.
Lewis, Miles, the French brothers, Colin Scott, Greg Dowling, Gary Coyne, Tony Kajewski, The 3 Greens. None of Greens were rep players but they were some of the toughest and best club players going and Brian Walsh who used to make Wally Lewis work his arse off before Lewis came home to Wynnum
They beat a souths team that was coached by Wayne Bennett and contained Gary Belcher, Mal Meninga, Bob Lindner and Peter Jackson 42 - 8 in the final
A record that would never be beaten in the BRL
IIRC Ron McAuliffe and the Brisbane press wanted a club challenge between Canterbury and Wynnum.
The NSWRL wouldn't do it. Maybe they were scared of losing to a Brisbane side
