Can someone contact powers that be and put an end to rumours from other forums about Shell sponsorship for next year, WPS merger or takeover of DJR, Lowndes being linked to same. This all sounds like the product of fertile imaginations(hopefully). However I have heard nothing on both Shell and Ford money for next year, has there been any progress in regards to this.

I thought it was old GTR Magic trying to stir up some trouble with DJR again. He's always had some sought of drama with DJR, & every year it's something new. Last year he had Shell pulling out & being replaced by BP of all things & we all know that didn't happen.
Surely after all the success DJR has given Shell over the years(4 ATTC's & 2 Bathurst wins & many other victories) they can stick with DJ 4 another 3 years & be around when DJR are on top again.

GTRMagic says a lot of stuff; some of it is extremely well-researched and close to the money(he wrote a really good piece on the last days of 00/Craig Lowndes a couple of years ago) a lot of it is generally a bit of fishing on his part.

One thing is for sure; the average fan on the street won't hear about the inner wheelings and dealings of the sport until the wheelers and dealers want it known. What's happening within DJR and WPS and anyone else thrown in via the rumour mill? Stuffed if I know. How will I find out? Wait five years and then try to remember what happened four years previously :D - hindsight is a wonderful thing

Next year - mmmm, long way off yet - I for one am taking it round by round, cos who knows what will really occur, and whether all of us will be around to find out!

The following is the official response by DJR General Manger, Steve Chalker:

Response

We have renewed our agreement with Ford for a further long term period. Our Shell renewal is well underway and we hope to be able to make an announcement in about a month. There is NO discussions with WPS about anything, never has been any and won?t be any. In terms of Craig Lowndes, well who wouldn?t want him, I hope that one comes true, but there have not been any discussions at this point.

Thanks Doug and Chalks.

I notice that the silly season has started already... or is it delayed from last off-season?

That's great news Doug, maybe that will quash some rumours. I would love to see C.L. in a DJR Ford but at the expense of whom?? Jnr will produce the goods, Bowe in a recent interview in a magazine rated him as one of the top 10 drivers so why give him the boot & Luffy has shown enough promise to continue with for 2005. I'm sure Shell will continue there record breaking sponsorship of DJR..

How good is that, it is a credit to the team and the organisers of this site that we can get a reply from the heirachy. Let it be known I was not trying to propogate any rumours I just wanted it put to rest thanks to all concerned.

one more rumour starting to do the rounds is Steve driving for ANOTHER team in 2005. Is this fact, fiction, or not yet decided?

Thats rumour I hadn't heard - His contract is due for expiration at the end of this season. I'll ask the powers that be if they can give us any insight.

Henry

I had heard that one too, and that there were people actively chasing him... nice to know that "our"lead driver's in demand... but isn't it a little early for the silly season just yet?

I read where the tip is that Ritter will co-drive with Ambrose and Cam McLean will be with Rusty at SBR for the enduro's - what do you guys think about those driver pairings??

Henry

New member
They need a left-foot braker for Ambrose's car, it seems that the driver'e styles were too dissimilar last year or something, and their setup was compromised...

Havent had to chance to say anything...
But DJR still has marketing pull. The Singing of Fujitsu as Konica sponsor in evident to that.....
So if and its a bloody big if..Shell dont renew for 2005,I dont have any concerns about a lack of money of title sponsor for 2005

The Official line from DJR Media, Tony Mee is as follows:

Hi Doug

Steve's current contract finishes at the end of this year. At this point no
re-negotiation has taken place as both Steve and the team see this is a
matter for the end of the year.

That's about it mate.

Cheers

That's a bit of a worry then. As we all know Jnr & Bezzy are very good mates & that's the rumour where he's going. WPS.

Firstly, I hope he doesnt go, he has been around through enough down years to want to be "here" when things keep getting better. Because he is a mate of Besnard gives no weight to the rumour. It would be a big gamble to leave but probably the only way to shut up his many unfounded critics if he can do well elsewhere. Reality says this must be his year to, if not win a race or two at least get top ten consistency back to the team. Most realise the cars have been the problem in the past but like anybody else results must come to keep your job. Ask engineers and engine builders etc. Put simply, I would think if results like the creek continue regularly and improve I dont think he would go anywhere.

To tell you the truth i think it would be good for Junior to drive for another team. I think it would enhance his driving talent and his sorting of the car. He has only been with DJR and i think it would make his career to see how other team's do it and there approach to thing's.
Not knocking Dick but he wear's his heart on his sleeve and you can see every emotion in Dick without him even saying a word.
Some how i don't think this help's Junior, he's out there driving his bum off, come's back with a p#$$% poor qualifying time, and all he would have to do is look at Dick and you would be able to see the disappointment.
Not only that, when he does come home he can tell DJR about all the little mod's that the other team does
