Don't know how true this is but i heard they were trialling 8mm connecting rod bolt's instead of 10mm to cut down on internal weight.Perhaps we could get an insight into this from the engine builder????[?]
Hi DJRFAN1 :Steve Chalker, DJR General Manager came back to me with this answer to your question:
"The engines were blowing and generally misbehaving, aka Bathurst, due to some mapping issues. This has now been solved."
I hope this helps.
It was disheartening & nearly brought me to tears every time it happened because on nearly every occasion 1 or both cars were headed for a top 5 finish. Classic example was Pukekohe.
I'm not mechanically minded, but by mapping what do they mean? Not enough oil getting through?
Some of the knockers were blaming the way Steve & Max were driving their cars. They're both brilliant drivers & it's a shame to see Max go.
I saw Luffy driving the MGF at Oran Park, & if he drives & wins with that much of a margin in the V8s the opposition might as well pack their bongos & go home.
It robbed DJR of a few podium finishes[V]. The most memorable was Steve at Pukekohe - 5th position, motor expired, new engine for final race & he still finished 17th. He was on fire that weekend.
