In 87 the turbo's were giving them such a hard time they couldn't them to last. At Lakeside the one they used was from a round or two before and it was the only one that had lasted so they bolted it on for the Lakeside round, wound the boost up and Dick was killing them. Then it ended like every turbo did that year. In a cloud of smoke

At Lakeside in 1987, only the 3rd Australian Race Meeting for the Sierra Cosworth, DJR were penalised for shaving 30 1000ths of an inch off the Turbines which allowed them to run more boost. Dick came from about 6th position gradually passing each car down the front staight and sending the local crowd into a frenzy. Both cars failed to finish the race but it wasn't due to the Turbo's blowing. Other components within the turbo couldn't handle the extra boost and failed.

Dick received a 1 week suspension for this indiscretion whilst his team mate, the late Gregg Hansford was only suspended for 24 hours as he was considered to be a 'driver only' as opposed to Dick who owned the team and was involved in some elements of engineering.

Dick later blew the Lakeside Turbo at the Surfers Paradise Round where he bagged pole position by completely shutting off the waste gate (full boost), with the Turbo letting go on the 1st lap through the esses.

The Turbo Dick used for the first win anywhere in the world for the Sierra Cosworth at Adelaide International Raceway in 1987, blew up in a massive way at Amaroo Park later in the year.

In August 1 that year, the Sierra Cosworth was upgraded to full RS500 spec receiveing a new front spoiler, an larger lip on the rear wing and a much bigger turbocharger.

At Bathurst that year, after Hardies Hero's, Dick's 2 Ford Sierra RS500's were found to be running with illegal fuel (the result of an octane booster) and were relegated to 9th and 10th positions on the grid.

Of course Bathurst 1987 was a disaster with both cars failing within the first 4 laps with Neville Crichton riding the wall into The Cutting after coming together with LP and Dick losing a Diff at Reid Park.

I think that just about covers it Bartman :)

Although i am not the one who brought up the turbo discussion i am very impressed that you have done your homework with such diligence.

Apparently Neville Crighton still owes Dick the money for that drive at Bathurst in 87, the bill is still in Dicks bottom drawer so the saying goes.

HH, Neville Crichton has never been short of a quid and last years Sydney to Hobart victory probably confirms it.

No Homework Darren. All off the top of my head. I remember the 80's like it was yesterday and especially the Sierra era after a couple of lean years with the 'Stang.

Yeah, the boat is called Afla Romeo. He owns Ateco, importers of Alfas, Suzukis and so on. So the boat can be written of in advertising tax dollars.

Was there a penalty for the lightweight panels on the EF in '96. Remember the "don't push here" signs? (D'oh!)

just a guess but probably the very first Falcon the team built at the end of 1992 that was knocked back by CAMS and had to used as the show car.

you'd be surprised how many liveries and how long that thing was the show car for Daz..

so... [sa]to you..

I'll give you a hint HH, it has nothing to do with the show car you are going on about but which chassis that was raced.

So [sa]back at you [crackup]

I'd say it was one of the last BA's. 2nd last one would have seen Shell, Westpoint, First Rock, Jim Beam, Jim Beam Zero Sugar, Another Jim beam livery and then perhaps fujitsu liveries.

The final BA would have seen Westpoint, V8 Telecom, Accor Premiere, Jim Beam, Jim Beam Zero, Another Jim Beam, fujitsu liveries, as well as the FG livery when it was run at the AGP in place of courtneys FG

Agree DK that it is a BA but I could only get 7 liveries for each.

DJR BA III - Shell, Westpoint, FirstRock, Jim Beam 07, Jim Beam Zero 07, Jim Beam 08, Crimsafe 09

DJR BA IV - Westpoint, V8 Telecom, APVC, Jim Beam 07, Jim Beam Zero 07, Jim Beam 08, Jim Beam 09 (FG)

As these cars were built in seasons 04/05, they have not had a chance to run in the Fujitsu series until 2009 of which BA III was used.

Technically speaking both of these cars also ran a 'The Team' livery in both 2007 and 2008.

Are we both missing something? [sh]

Very very close Donut King and ROB17.

DJR BA16 has been one of the longest-serving cars in DJR team history, along with holding the record for the most number of different liveries (8) throughout its life with the team: Shell Helix (04), Westpoint (05) FirstRock(06), Jim Beam (07), Jim Beam and Zero Sugar Cola (07), Jim Beam (08), Crimsafe (09), Jim Beam #18 (09).

Thats right they used Grants car as James' AGP car in 09.

So if you add the Bahrain 07 livery (The Team Zero Sugar Cola) and Bahrain 08 livery (The Team) that makes 10 :D
