DJR's contract with Westpoint was a five year deal, with the option for another five years subsequent to that. All the noises suggested that DJR had a substantial budget increase, compared to Shell's contribution.
This talk of Dick asking Westpoint to leave, leaves me wondering. Is Dick that confident that he will attract sponsors and his business interests can also raise funds for the team? Or has Westpoint breached its contractual obligations to the DJR team? How does Glenn Seton fit into this scenario?
This is only my theory, but I believe that if true, this talk of the self-sufficient sponsor may be the reason for giving Glenn the flick. As Glenn stated in MN, he has fulfilled the requirements of the contract, meaning that there is very little or nothing DJR can do to legally dismiss him without a payout. Westpoint may be more a Seton-loyal sponsor than a DJR sponsor, which may mean that Westpoint may take their money and Seton over to another team.
Why would DJR be so keen to sack a driver with a year on his contract, who has fulfilled all the performance indicators that DJR asked of him? The new sponsor appears to be an excuse, trivial, as it is, to sign either Davison or Canto.
Does this mean that Seto will be driving a HSV Dealer Team Commodore in 2006? Remember, that they are the team RUMOURED to get the Toll franchise, thus leaving an extra seat and sponsor for 2006 nominally.
In news from the GTR forum, Seto has been RUMOURED to have been assessed for the SBR ride, on the orders of Ford Motorsport. And in a strange coincidence, SBR are looking for a NEW sponsor. Could it be, heaven forbid, that Glenn and Westpoint will be in #4 in 2006?
Let's hope all these rumours are sorted out soon, and that Glenn has a seat in 2006.
