I got this reply from DJR,

"Dick will be at the Muscle Car Masters but it is yet to be
confirmed if he will be driving."

It will be great if he does get out on the track. [bw] I would like to see him in either Tru-Blu or Greens-Tuf

If Dick did take to the track I would see it as more likely he would be behind the wheel of an existing Biante series vehicle, not one of the cars mentioned.

I believe that it may be in the Mustang... apparently it's been getting a birthday, although the XE was slated for a freshen-up too.

All that sounds great, but I'd like to see him in Jim Beam #17 or 18.
Seriously, it would be great to see him turn a wheel in anger(?) again in anything.

I have been told that it will be the Mustang if he decides to take up the offer to have a drive.

Makes sense: probably the "least" valuable historic DJR car in the Bowden COllection, and a vastly underrated vehicle. THose crusty old ones among us will remember Bathurst 1985 as an opportunity gone wanting: the mid-year homologation concessions for the little hatchback made it an enduro weapon. Dick was running away with the Oran Park enduro before she shed a wheel, and did good things at Sandown before a gearbox broke... Bathurst brought out her best: she was quick, potentially the quickest thing there, and handled and braked brilliantly.

Allan Moffat had seat time in most of the competing marques, and rated the Mustang as the car to have, after punting the older spare car around for a handful of laps. Suddenly it was on: Moffat and Michele Delcourt were touted to drive #18 in the race: Moffat had been on the sidelines, and Delecourt's Starion was dying in the pits. Doug Jacobi from Motorcraft and Ross Palmer - the sponsors - agreed to underwrite the extra cost and potential cost of the car should anything go wrong... and Larry Perkins put an end to it, feeling that running the second car would dilute the effort to get #17 home in front. His "official" objection was that the exhaust system on the second car was a non-homologated "development" system... so Moffat went back to the commentary booth, Delecourt went back to the Starion... and #17 was hobbled by a spilt oil cooler and poorly-fitted front left wheel... and still came home seventh.

So much that could've been, but a great little car nonetheless. As much as I'd like to see Dick demo the Falcons, the Mustang is liekly the only one he'll drive in anger... and that'll be good enough for me.

Not quite, Nascar. This one is the second of the two, the one they refurb'd for the 1985 enduros & the 1986 season (only one of the two to win a race though). The 1985 ATCC car (which came second to Our Jum) was the car painted black for the 1986 NZ races, became the T car for Bathurst 1986, and was crunched heavily in NZ in early 1987 during the Nissan-Mobil races. It was sold to Robbie Ker (who took delivery of it after the NZ races, and apparently reconditioned it. Dunno where that one is but apparently it's around...

I loved that little Mustang and I was so rapt when it won at the GP. I have a vivid memory of it leading into the first turn. Pity Ford didn't come to the party and homologate some injection goodies for it.

Mustang sounds OK to me...
Pardon the pun Rob? :D
The 85 Bathurst Mustang was probably one of the best sounding Touring Cars ever! Awesome exhaust note after the August 1 homologation that year.
