There is a second V8 Supercar mod for rFactor, called FVRV8, and I have just about finished my latest livery for it. Body is done, just have to complete the windows.

I thought you might like a look at it.

Hmm, not able to edit my own post.

I meant to add that the team name is 'Mad Dog Racing' (www.maddogracing.info), which explains the logo on the side and boot, and the rather upset puppy tearing through the bonnet.

The font is not quite right, but as close as I could get, as Jim Beam use a custom font as far as I know, which isn't readily available online. I got the two-tone effect right, but it's a case of near enough on the font type.

The blue bands on the windows look a bit odd, but I haven't done anything with the windows yet, those are the default template ones (hence no name or number).

www.rfactor.net or www.rfactorcentral.com for the SIM (around $55).

In the 'Community' section at www.rfactor.net there is a short list of sites where racers hang out. Apart from my own site (www.maddogracing.info) I hang out mostly at www.ausfactor.com, or a couple of the other community/team sites.

As much as it is possible to compete with an Xbox or PS2 type controller, a wheel and pedals gets the best result. Like most my first wheel was a Logitech Momo, then stepped up to a Logitech G25, but any wheel setup is pretty much required to get the most out of the sim (it's a simulation, not a game, as such).

'Yap' is another club 17 member who hangs out at AusFactor, and races this.

Apart from the two V8SC mods (V8Factor & FVRV8), we race everything from Catterhams, Minis, Clios, and open wheelers (F1/Champ/F3) to Nascar, and even go-karts and sprint cars. There would be close to 150 mods for rFactor, with one of the latest being 'Bathurst Legends 1969', including the entire field of GT & GTS entries from that year.

Here we go. I've made some changes, and redone the side text, which is much better now. I also added the new site sponsor to the sides:

Quasi this sounds great. Can you tell me more? I used to run Touring Car Legends with added Aussie tracks and skins. But there were no Falcons or Holdens. How would it run with 512 Meg RAM and 1800 processor?

Hey Quasi, I meant to bring it up before, but maybe you should change the logo to djrclub17, rather than club17 [:0][sa]

Depending on your peccadillos?

Not as well as it should mate, depends on your video card as well.

As far as the side banner is concerned, the club banner only says 'Club 17' and that is what I've always referred to it as, so that is why I did it that way. The rear wing actually has the logo from the top right corner of the site, top and bottom.

My video card is a GeForce FX5200.

A couple of questions if you don't mind saving me doing research.

1. I notice that rFactor has no licences to run car manufacturers names or circuits. Does that mean that all the racing is amongst generic cars with equal performance?

2. Can you adjust the AI and the difficulty level separately?

3. Is there sports car racing i.e. Le Mans or open wheelers and sedans only?

4. I can't afford a G25 wheel. What is the Logitech Momo like? (its on special at Gamesmen)

Quasi must of missed this one, so I will butt in

That really would be a struggle - it would play, and guys we know have used them, but would need all graphic options turned down

Go here http://rfactorcentral.com/sitemap.cfm

The list on the left hand side, under rFactor Cars are all the available cars or "mods" that can be downloaded (all free) and installed into the game - which all can be fine tuned to improve performance

The middle column is all the tracks available (once again all free to download) - Basically if there is a track somewhere in the world that is being raced on, sooner or later somebody will map it into a format so you can drive on it in the game

2. Can you adjust the AI and the difficulty level separately?

Absolutely - if you are racing offline you can change the AI skill upwards or downwards depending on your own ability

In the game as well, you can use driving aids on your own car (traction control, ABS, steering help, etc) to make things easier

See above list

Yep the Momo is quite OK - I used one for over 12 months on rFactor - I wouldn't reccommend buying an expensive wheel first up, only to discard it when you don't like the game

BUT down the track the G25 is a worthwhile purchase

Thanks Yap

Looks like I need a new PC really to play it. I used a just-good-enough PC for GPL and it was a real disappointment. But I am really keen on the Bathurst 1969 mod, so maybe downt he track...

I am not sure on your answer to the first question: When you race are you racing against different cars with different performance characteristics? Monaro v GTHO seems to me to be two V8s of the same hp and weight against each other, just different skins. Same with the Aussie V8s mod, Commodores v Falcons. But, can you race a more nimble car against a car with more hp? I guess that is how the Bathurst 72 mod will work with the XU1s?

Aha now I know what you mean

On the whole most of the mods released are cars of similar speeds

But there are a few, like the Historic mod and some of the GT ones which have a range of cars available

But yes, playing it with a PC that is JUST good enough will probably turn you off the game

You can download a demo (which gives you I think 14 days trial), so that would be enough to see how it plays on your PC

The Bathurst 69 mod is awesome, and they will be putting out further years as well

The Mad Dog Racing 'Club17/Refund Home Loans' BF Falcon had it's first outing on Sunday in round 1 of the 2009 series, against a strong field of 16 enties. It was a great night and I brought it home in 8th place for the two race round.

Personally, I had a blast and finished mid pack in race 1, after qualifying 7th. Due to a technical glitch with starting positions for race 2, we re-qualified for the second 10 lap race, and I blew my hotlap with a spin, so started rear of grid. Since I didn't get the chance for a smoke prior to race 2 I was in a pretty crappy mood, and this brought about a red hot charge through the field from last to 4th in 7 laps, then a lapse of concentration in a side-by-side duel to hold my position against the eventual round winner on lap 8, I missed a turn and punched the wall, causing front end damage and a flat tyre. I pitted to repair the damage and managed to bring it home 7th for the race.....can't be too unhappy with that.

A shot of me trying to hold 4th place with 2 laps to go (yes that is battle damage right on the sponsor's logo):

Yes, it can be mate.

Round 2 of the series is tomorrow, at Long Beach street curcuit. This is a concrete canyon, much like the Canberra track from a few years ago, and will test a few people out over the two 15 lap races. In practice I'm pulling a 1:02.4 which is just about right on the money, with the fastest lap I've seen only a few tenths better.

I hope I can put in a good performance here, as clean laps and keeping it off the wall will be the only way to move up the ladder, with my home track coming up in a couple of weeks (Surfers Paradise) it would be nice to get a leg up before hitting familiar territory.
