Guys, as a prior flagmarshall at lakeside, I agree that Dick had a handle on that place like none other - their were some exceptional performances by club racers though - Ken Peters in his Auscam, and good ol Freddy Sayers flogging his Mini sports sedan around -and I don't think he braked anywhere!!

It must've been a great place to be... I never got there, but loved the sights (via Channel 7) of Geminis heading into the kink three abreast. That and the footage of Dick in the EL from "True Blue", culminating in Paul Weel's turnaround coming onto the straight when the big fella got a bit impatient: magic footage of the bloke fighting hard on home turf.

OT, but where does the heritage listing issue at Lakeside stand now? Obviously it's valuable real estate, but having seen the death of too many once-great Australian race tracks, it would be a real shame to let Lakeside go without a fight. Willowbank is not a true alternative!

Officially, so far as I know, through the "friends of lakeside" is that its heritage listing deems it cannot be used for any other purpose - so the Pine Rivers Shire can choose to maintain it under the Heritage mandate, or run club races after ome upgrading, and actually recoup some revenue.

So who are the "Friends of Lakeside"? And who do we hold to ransom to start the upgrading. I for one would love the opportunity to lap the place... although I'm betting that noise and encroaching development might be a major hurdle...

Pine Rivers Shire Council are the ones who "own" the place, and yes, there are noise restrictions, I will get the number for the save lakeside, or friends of lakeside group.

scotty, I reckon its something we could get the whole club behind - its for a very good cause, whilst we will never see the V8's there again, it could become quite a viable club venue - I am doing the ol web search now to find details.

COOL! I think it was just such an awesome place... an intimidating place that rewarded the brave... the slo-mo footage of the XD thru the kink with Brock on his hammer at the 81 ATCC finale, as they bounced and skipped across the road... man, good stuff! The roll call over the years, the Tasman series, the Improved Tourer races, pictures of Dick EH on two wheels... there's just so much heritage... potentially it could be such a shrine for club racing and the like (museum anybody?)... although the fact that it's being built out obviously limits it....

Mate its not being built out at al -wait till you see it - its surrounded by bushland - as for the races - the most memorable moment was the sheer speed of John Smith in the Ralt down the hill onto the straight - quite scary

my personal favorite would have to be dick after a heart wrenching 1980 bathurst,go back in 81 and take the win, unfortunately it ended by the crash but hey rules are rules and dick was deemed the winner, and yes we were robbed being beaten by a crashed car.

My favourite DJR car was the 1994 Bathurst winning EB Falcon. Even though i have been supporting DJR since Amaroo Park 1980 and he has had many great cars i have to say the 1994 EB was awesome. The performance of that car at the Sandown 500 and the Bathurst 1000 that year was awesome. It just seemed like that they could punish that car all day and Bathurst 1994 remains my greatest sporting moment that i have witnessed. That car went on to win the 1995 champpionship even though it was in EF panels. I will never forget the black smoke that car used to blow out the exhaust when it was under full power.

My favourite past DJR car would have to be a AU since that was the car that not only scored pole for Steve Johnson in the GMC 400 2001(his firs pole ever) but also, he won the race in stunning fashion.

The Shell AU's certainly had the pace that weekend. I remember qualifying that year at Canberra & they wheeled #18 out & the Rat did 3 or 4 quick laps which was almost 1 sec quicker than anybody & then they put it away for the rest of the session. It was Allan Moffat type stuff from the RX-7 days but unfortunately it was to no evail as Radisich self destructed from there. It was one of the proudest days in DJR history though seeing SJ take his first win with Dick & Jill in the pits as proud as punch.

I love to 1992 again with those Ford Sierras chasing the Nissan Skylines GTRin the wet and appreciate what a wonderful job the Ford team had done to chase 4WD Nissans.;)

I still believe that Seton was taken out by Bowe; not the other way round. I'll consult my 1994 championship tape to ascertain whether it was likely that Glenn was heading to the pits.

If you are referring to the race at Lakeside, if Seto was on his way to the pits his exit from the Eastern Loop was fairly optimistic - and when he got turned you could actually hear him laughing(giggling perhaps) on racecam.
