The early part of 1999 saw Mr Seton's Falcon as the quickest AU, followed by Mr Bright's SBR example. DJR were nowhere, with Mr Radisich getting to grips with ATCC sprint racing, and Mr Johnson struggling with sinus problems and the commitments of his retirement year. Mr Larkham had gone down a blind alley as per usual with his AU, and Mr Crompton's AU was occasionally quick.
The second half of 1999 saw Mr Seton lose his way with the Falcon, which was not responding to the particular set of Bridgestones used at the time. That problem would be rectified with the next Bridgestone compound introduced in Adelaide 2000. Messrs Radisich, Bright, Larkham and Bowe were becoming extremely quick with their examples, but results compared to Mr Seton were poor. Mr Seton would finish as the top Ford runner in third position.
