Well, some numptys will never learn. The igorance and stupidity, not to mention bloated sense of self importance, will again consume a golden opportunity to transform the Gold Coast motorsport event into a massive money maker, not to mention what could be an icon event on the motorsport calendar.
After a meeting of the Gold Coast council it seems that the 'ignorance is bliss' attitude will again illistrate clearly that politicians at all levels are in it for themselves, and that like journalists, they don't need to know WTF they are on about to make multi-million dollar decisions that effect the rest of us.
Self glorification is the mainstay in politics, and it was stated very clearly by some trumped up female public servant that she would not support any form of event in 2010 that did not have an international race as the main attraction.
Whilst self proclaiming as a major supporter of the event, she gave the instant impression that she was not only single minded about an international race of some kind, but enforced my ardent belief that politicians know SFA about anything, explaining why they continue to blunder thier way along, creating devastation where paradise may well have blossomed.
The sooner these creteanous wannabes are put in a position more aligned with a consulting role, and the organisation, and decision making powers are taken from both them and thier socialite, butt kissing associates, and put into the hands of an organising committee that is passionate and knowledgable about providing a quality motorsport event the better.
It is not good business sense to put people in such positions of power, responsible for selling and promoting a product who neither actually care, nor know the first thing about it. In the case of motorsport there is no shortage of experienced people who fit the role description, yet who would also be passionate and fully knowledgable about motorsport in this country.
I strongly disagree that we need an international race to gain international recognition and tourist dollars. There is an incredible opportunity to market a local product to the world (A weekend of V8SC, Muscle Car Masters, and several categories of support racing), and if done correctly, and with pride, it has the potential to outclass anything ever seen in Surfers Paradise.
Rather than take the bull by the horns and show some guts, these elected representatives (something they continually seem to forget or ignore), are plagued with tunnel vision, seeking only a quick fix, to put themselves, once again, back up on some gloriuos pedestal, where they can look down upon mere race fans, and feel good about themselves whilst sipping champagne and fine wines and patting themselves on the back for once again creating a mecca of mediocrity.
God help this event!
