Top choices Col and Rob, though I whole heartedly agree with all of them I won't repeat the same again, but here my few "noteable cars" to add (some are even from the opposition-shock horror).

Sounds like your a Finnigan tragic as well SF. Always thought his Tripple M VH was his best looking car. Must say I was disappointed when the K-Mart team who signed him 4 Bathurst a few years ago, shafted him only a few weeks before the great race & replaced him with Truckie Parsons. Would have been good to see how he went in a top level car...

BTW, I did like the look of the the HDT and Grice A9X's... but with a nick like "Henry" I can't admit to that, can I?

You could call me a Terry Finnigan, Glenn Seton, Garry Willmington and Scotty taylor tragic, as I have a soft spot for all of them. It's great to see Garry second in the ATCC (AMRS) at the moment. The Triple M VH was a good-looking car, but perhaps one that I neglected to include was the Finnigan Huon Valley VK of 1985-1986. Don't remind Terry of that company. If I remember correctly, Terry was ditched from Kmart Racing for a lacklustre performance in the Q500. Now, anyone with half a brain would know that Terry grows an extra leg at Bathurst. Terry then signed up with Allan Heath, with his wife Lenore as unofficial team manager. Terry outqualified the second Kmart car by a few places, in a car that hadn't shown any signs of getting out of 30th during the 2000 season. Then, sadly, a driveshaft breaks on race morning placing Heath/Finnigan out of the 1000. Parsons/Hossack would finish ninth, the last car on the lead lap. Terry hasn't raced since as far I know. An interesting aside to all this was that Terry and Heath were only one of 19 pairings who were technically qualified for that year's 1000. I could present a credible argument, saying that if Finnigan had been retained, he could have qualified anywhere between 15th and 20th, and finished in the top five that year, but not to be. I also think Terry holds the record for most Bathurst starts without factory support of any kind, which is an interesting statistic.

So in summary, Moff's Coke Mustang seemed to score the most votes on here closely followed by TRU BLU & Greens -tuf. Does this mean, according to the Club 17 faithful, that these 3 beauties are the 3 best looking Touring Cars in Australian history???

Wouldn't be too far out I wouldn't think...:D:D

Actually seeing the Coke Mussie, the Super Falcon and Beechey's Munro all lined up in Bowdens shed the Super falcon is the most imposing. It just reek's masculinity while the Mustang just looks great.

I daresay that those three in the flesh would be a MOST imposing sight. My cousin saw the Mustang at last year's Sydney motor show, and marvelled at how low and wide the thing is.

Every time I drop in at DJR, I can't help but marvel similarly at the old XD... she sits pretty damn low, that thing.

I'm sure they had the HO on display at Bathurst last year Col. What a bit of gear that thing is..Also saw the Coke Mustang at Sydney motor show last year & I too couldn't believe how low it was. Must have been unreal to see these things race in their hay day along with Jane's Comaro & Beechey's Monaro..

I sometimes think I was born to late to appreciate what was undoubtably, one of the best era's of Australian Touring Car racing..

The Mustang always looks lower.
KarKraft use to cut nearly 2" off the front inner guards to lower the nose.
Next time you see a normal Mussie have a look along the side of it and you will notice that the front guard lines up nicely with the doors. Have a look at the Coke Mustang and you'll notice how the front guards are sloping downwards at the front

When i was building the Moffat site with BJ, i had to stare at all these bloody cars everyday for hours on end, and Allans Black Federation XC was a pretty hot old car... Even the Blue Brut33 Falcon was a nice lookin' machine..

Dont know if they rank with Dick's XE, and the Mustangs... but i think they deserve a mention..

Bathurst 1980 - and denny Hulme ran an awesome looking Commodore with, I think, Ray Smith. For the era, it was certainly outstanding.
Another worth a mention was a guy named Greg Whittaker, who after purchasing a TTA sprinter, changed the deep red stripe to dayglo - aka 84 HDT commodore - the car looked a peach!!

Was that the Gold Bullion Commodore Doug??

I can't believe no one has mentioned the Army Reserve XD. You either like it or hate it but it was definately eye catching 4 the era..

Another car I didn't mind was Gossy's XJS V12 Jag. Very classy but a tad slow against the rest of the competition. Was relatively quick in qualifying for the 84 Bathurst 1000 however, but Walkinshaw soon ****ed that up....

The Gold Bullion Commodore ran in the 1985 Bathurst 1000. The vehicle was Perkins-built, if memory served me correctly. Subsequent to that, Graeme Crosby ran the car in Gold Bullion, Systime and Bob Jane livery through the 1986 ATCC and the AEC, excepting Amaroo.
