Wasn't part of the goon squad but have felt its effects.
The Broncs Club including Wayne had to make some very tough decisions and naturally not everyone was happy with them.
Barry Maranta (original Bronc with Porky) once told me if you worry about what others think of your business decisions then you shouldn't be in business.

I agree with you about old Cyril - he was Deputy Principal at BSHS when I first crossed his path - a better judge of talent you will never find.

What i've never liked about Bennett is if you aren't part of his circle you don't rate.
Their have been lots of players the Broncs had and let go because they weren't close to Bennett. You only have to look at Andrew Gee in the twilight of his career being selected in an origin. It was like Oprah Winfrey trying to keep pace with Marion Jones

Cyril did more for the Bronc talent than Bennett ever did

I still think you're a bit harsh on Benny but that's your prerogative - it'd be a bit dull if we all saw things exactly the same way.
Although there were some players who didn't quite fit (as with all clubs in all sports) I don't think it was any "inner circle" us and them mentality. It was more to do with the salary cap and future directions.
I, too, was pissed off when Wally was let go but in time I could see the reasoning behind it. I would have much rathered that he stayed at the Broncs to finish his career there.
Andrew Gee is still at the Broncs - operations manager, I think. I believe he played on because he/they saw the future at the club with him involved. He is, by all accounts (well, according to Bruno), a pretty smart operator

Like him or not, Benny's record just got even better with the Dragons winning in convincing style, I said I wasn't going to watch but it rained on and off here so I did see a bit of it.

Pretty good game.

A great job by the Roosters for their improvement over last year but the better team this season and today definitely won.
7 out of 7 for Benny - he can't be too bad a coach Col!

There's no doubt he's a good coach but i don't subscribe to this supre coach crap.

I can't think of one of those premierships he got with Brisbane where he didn't have the best side on the paddock.

Want to look at Bennett and origin as well.

Anyway i loved what i saw today. If Pierce is NSW's halfback of the future QLD will keep winning origin. He did Jack and left everything for Carney.

Even though the Dragqueens were to good i thought the refereeing was pathetic. Heaps of offside players , Morris passing the ball from outside the field of play and the saints scoring the in the same passage of play.
Youngs knock on for a try. StGeorge were too good but they got every 50 50 call

Did you like that win Quasi?[sc]

What gives you that idea mate[y]

31 years between premierships, and the first for the merger....doesn't get much sweeter. All dragons fans can say they've waited a long time for this, but those of us that witnessed the last one for themselves have suffered long and hard. Now the pressure is on them to at least make the finals again next year.

And yes, well done to the Roosters for going from wooden spooners last year to grand finalists this year...a huge effort to turn things around.

What I need now, to make this perfect, is to get the double. A Bathurst victory for DJR would cap it off as a year to remember for sure.

Yeah, dont worry about the first in 31 years for St George, it's the FIRST EVER for us down here in Wollongong and it feels great!

I have three sporting passions.. Leeds United, The Dragons, and DJR.... Leeds were promoted in August for the first time in 7 years, the Dragons did their bit... so if DJR can do the business, i'll die a happy man..

And Col, you're talking out your backside... What about Bennet's involvment in the Kiwi world cup win.. ? and the Dragons have had some great sides over the years, and they couldnt win ANYTHING.. it took a great coach to get the job done, and Bennet is the greatest...

I couldnt face being at the ground on Sunday, but i went in to the Gong yesterday morning and welcomed the boys home.. The biggest cheer was reserved for Bennet... I know you like to think what you have to say is almost always right, but there were 15,000 people at WIN yesterday, and the night before at Kogarah that would disagree with you.. and i dare say that the majority of Queendslanders and Brisbane fans.. AND KIWIS! would disagree too.. ;):D

Story in the Papers today , I don't know if you roaches are getting the news ?, but they are talking renaming "Warwick", Waynewick.

In case you southerners don't know, . . . he was born there.

I guess it's all tongue in cheek, but show how he is respected here in QLD[sc][bw]

Mitchell , Bennetts involvement in the world cup is another reason why i dislike him.

Helping out the Kiwis is like DJR going Holden or Wally Lewis supporting the blues.
You say i'm talking out of my arse. If he was so good why doesn't he take that form into origin

Don't get caught up in the hype mate.
There were plenty of seasons with the Broncs where they failed miserably.
When they did instead of putting his hand up he sacked everyone of his support staff that had been with him for yeears making them out to be the scapegoats.

The Dragons have won the premiership they'll find it twice as hard to do it again next year. Every team will be out to prove something against them

I'm no footy fanatic, but here's my 2c worth -

For the last two years under Bennett the Dragons have won two minor premierships and had only a nod of respect. Last year he made a slip-up in the finals and this year he got panned for not playing attacking football. But in this year's finals there were no mistakes and the Dragons came on song in the last 40 mins of the season.

Co-incidence?

Players came into that side, who no-one rated before Bennett had them. Michael Weyman is from my old home town, and he says he owes Bennett practically everything.

Blessed?

Brian Smith brought the Roosters from last to the grand final. They played brilliantly right up until the game that counted. But once again Smith was out-smarted.

Lucky?

Bennett hasn't won every series or season put before him, but as a person who watched the Dragons drop balls, run out of ideas, and generally make dumb decisions for the last 30 years, I'd have him as coach for eternity. [bw]

as a broncos fan im proud of the decision they have made in regards to greg inglis they gave him every oppourtunity to show but he was a no show at the beginning of the training for next year.

Inglis will struggle to get much money to play in Australia now.
The Broncs were the only club with a decent amount of money (thanks to Izzy's defection). Supposedly Souths are in the picture but for a lot less than he was going to get.
Fancy stuffing up your future over $30000!
