Dick won the Surfers Paradise round of the ATCC in 1984. Who came second and third? Also which 2 cars failed to finish after a high speed shunt with a back marker and who was the backmarker?

Peter McLeod 2nd
Jim Richards 3rd

Allan Moffat famously tangled with Garry Wilmington and speared off into a rather solid little tree.

Indeed he was... he nosed into a bank or a fence or something from memory, and then shot across to help Moffat, who had broken his wrist and cracked his sternum in the impact.

Incidently, the friendship between Moffat and Harvey, which came about from this incident, was the seed from which Moffat's drive with HDT grew.

I wasn't born at the time, and have never seen any footage of the incident, but who appeared to be culpable for the incident, Garry Willmington or Allan Moffat? As a Willmington supporter, one would not think that he would resort to those tactics, having been a fair racer for the best part of thirty years.

Correct Henry! Yes Rob "Slug" was driving 05, Brock was racing at LeMans with Larry. SF, It was indeed Willmington who was at fault, He was a lap car and did not give way to the faster cars.I dp agree, SF that Garry Willmington was a very fair racer throughout his career and I believe it wasn't a deliberate action. Dick drove a magnificent race, running away from the field and winning comfortably in appalling conditions!

Moff and Wilmington had a similar touch at Adelaide (IIRC) in 1982, which tore the front suspension out of the Mazda too (just as a matter of trivia... think I've mentioned it in another thread here anyway).

& I think DJ won that round too didn't he Henry??

Must admit I was a big fan of Willmington & the "Magic 11" Yellow XD. Was very quick at Amaroo Pk in the Amscar series & in 1983, was the only V8 driver along with Terry Finnigan in the Tripple M Commodore to take it up to Jones & Sheil in their respective RX-7's..

Ahhhhhhh, those were the days.......

IIRC it was pissing down that day and i left there with as much mud on me as what was on the ground.Memory isn't to flash on this one.
Might have had something to do with the Rum induced state i was in

Nothing like a bit of anti-freeze to get you through a cold wet motor race Col..[^][^]

Sorry to the banana benders here but I give the rum a big sidestep. It tends to make me a little over aggresive!
