McLaughlin talks to DJR/TP

  • 1. "Your knowledge and input is always welcome but please respect the team, the drivers and other members. Abuse or harsh criticisms will not be tolerated".

    2. "This forum is designated 'Family Friendly' - (ie. we have young & impressionable readers - even if they're not Members/Posters) - therefore language must be moderated! - (how would YOU feel about YOUR 9 year old reading it?)

    3. "Use of characters (eg. #$*@!) that only 'partially' disguise an intended vulgar/offensive word(s) is unacceptable!
If you MUST express yourself in such a manner... use ***** and let the reader's imagination 'fill in the blanks'."

    Thank you for your cooperation.

There's always chatter, blank faces and denials from all parties.
There has to be otherwise deals would simply not get done.
"We're not looking for a 3rd car."
"I'm contracted to so and so."
"We have no driver changes."

In one way I feel for Gary Rogers as for the first time he's had a real shot at going for the championship with a great driver and his manufacturer says **** off we're outta here!

I'd prefer to see Volvo stay, Scotty Mc stay at GRM and a stable lineup at DJRTP. After the job Scott Pye did for the team last year, I think he deserves a bit of loyalty and a chance to really settle in and prove himself.

I agree, . .I also think Pye made some pretty good inroads toward the end of last season, . .and if that continues he will have a reasonable year this season.

Speedcafe has it that McLaughlin will be announced on Tuesday as the 2017 new driver at DJRTP, he will be good for the team, hope they sign a long term agreement with him as he has many race wins ahead of him.
Hopefully the good people at DJRTP do everything they can to make sure Scott Pye has a seat for 2017 in a decent car, it would be a shame to see him driving for an underfunded outfit like Dumbrell, he is way too talented for that. Unfortunately he is up against all the young guys entering the sport that come sponsors that have bucket loads of cash like Waters, Pither, Wood to name a few

Discussed a little bit here: http://www.djrclub17.com.au/showthread.php?6067-Rumours whereby if an announcement is made on Tuesday I will have got it spectacularly wrong... We will see

I think is a dumb move... nothing wrong with current line up and simply the cars are not good enough yet. Reckon they would have been better off building own cars in house and working on package for at least another 12 months before any driver changes and honestly Scott Pye deserves the teams loyalty.

Agree that the cars aren't quite there yet. I think Pye has done better than I expected he would, and Coulthard's impact hasn't seen us as consistently in the top 10 as I expected. If previous reports of the team trying out different dampers this season are correct then i think they need to pick a development path and stick to it the more variables they introduce the harder it will be to establish consistency. I'd want to be sure the current package and all of its components, mechanical or organic ones, arent up to the task before swapping any out

It's official now, Scott to join Fabian racing the #17.

No mention of Pye.

Might have to change the name from DJR/TP to Superblack Racing

Fantastic news getting Scott McLaughlin on board at DJRTP.
I've been quietly hoping for this since he came on the V8 Supercars scene - Scott has reminded me of a much younger Dick Johnson back in the day.

On the flip side deep respect for Scott Pye, a very competitive driver too, and worthy of a drive no doubt about it, I'm sure he'll be snapped up quick smart.

[h=1]DJR Team Penske confirms McLaughlin for 2017[/h]

DJR Team Penske have confirmed through a press release that they have signed the 23-year-old kiwi Scott McLaughlin for the 2017 Supercars season.
V8 legend Dick Johnson is excited to have the 23-year-old McLaughlin to team up with Fabian Coulthard to lead a two-car DJR Team Penske program in 2017.
“There’s no question that Scott McLaughlin is one of the top drivers in the series and we’re excited to bring him aboard at DJR Team Penske,” said team founder Dick Johnson.
“With the combination of McLaughlin and Coulthard we look forward to chasing race wins next season in what really is the most competitive touring cars series in the world.”
McLaughlin has posted seven top-five results in the first 13 races this season, including a pair of victories from pole position in Races 6 and 7 at the WD-40 Phillip Island SuperSprint.
“This is a great opportunity for me to join one of the most accomplished Supercar teams in history and, hopefully, we can continue to grow together,” said McLaughlin.
“I want to thank two absolute motorsport legends in Dick Johnson and Roger Penske for believing in me. I’m really excited about the future with the organization.”
McLaughlin will began his term at DJR Team Penske starting in 2017 on a multi-year deal.

I'm not a fan, He will be a great asset , he is fast, and any team would want to have him as their driver from those perspectives.
I do not find him to be anything like DJ, to me he is very much like Gizz, . .and has that same attitude

I agree with you on the PYE deal, I do not know why there wasn't a mention of him in the announcement, . even a thanks for keeping the seat warm, . . but there you go, . .since he's had the new chassis he's had the measure of Fabian really and improving too, . . I do hope GRM gets a car for the main game, for '17 and considers Pye for the job . .

On the one hand exciting for DJRTP but on the other disappointing for Scott Pye. I hope Pye can get himself a good seat for next year. Maybe DJRTP could supply cars and engines to GRM next year.
