We all know Moff, for most of his career was assosiated with the Blue Oval:):):) but later in his racing years he dabbled with Mazda & Holden :(:(:(before coming back to Ford :):):) to end his illustrious career. What was the first Holden he raced [V][V][V] & for which team & when & where[?][?][?]

I think it was a L34 or A9X Torana.Only a guess. The team and other details escape me.
P.S I will learn a lot from this forum, well done!

Spot on JC. Amaroo 79 in the 2nd Ron Hodgson A9X Bob Morris #25 Torana. He also had a one off drive for the HDT the following year at the Sandown 500 with the understanding he would not field a Falcon at the upcoming Bathurst 1000. He did & Brock was not amused.

Mick Webb's account of the rush to get to Bathurst in 1980 in last month's Unique Cars was interesting. Actually his account of working with Moffat was worth a read all round. The Allan Moffat website has some great clippings from articles written about Marvin the Magnificent (where did that nickname come from?). While as a pre-teen I was disgusted that he could abandon Ford in favour of the rice-burners, I have a great admiration for Allan Moffat, and think that's it's significant that his deeds that the fans hold in the highest esteem were largely performed more than 30 years ago.

Just a plug for the Allan Moffat site - it was designed by the very same young maestro who has created this site (in his own time, with no charge) and I reckon he has a long and prosperous future ahead of him.

It's a great site: I was overjoyed to see the copy of Michael Stahl's article over there, in addition to the others all of which, bar Barry Lake's test of the Rx-7, were new to me. Great job all concerned!

My partner in crime, Brett, pushed to have the articles on the site. We had truck-loads of them, originally, but there were a few dramas getting permission to use them all... Brett has found a few more by Michael Stahl, though, and it shouldnt be too long before we get them on the site...

COOL!! Stahly's a great writer... I always loved reading his stuff, and Paul Cockburn's... and Bill Tuckey's... and.... and anyway, that sort of stuff's always great to read: where did you get it all?

We searched... well... Brett searched [:p]

Initially, the site was 100% ours, and we had no problem with putting stuff on there that didnt belong to us :) but when Allan came on board, everything changed.

Most of the stuff just comes straight out of old Motor Racing Publications... We've got boxes full of 'em...

Brett wrote just about every bit of content on that site (Allan and his partner, Sue, doctored it up a bit, of course), He loves the stuff... similair to our 'Doug'... ;)

Cool... love a look in those boxes - I'd be there for months!

Allan was the Ford hero when I was a really young tacker, and I have nothing but admiration for the guy. I've chatted to folks whose dealings with him left them feeling that he was a bit... ahem... intense, but there's so much to admire about him, as I'm sure you're aware

I missed most of Allans early career but he always was very focussed ( see arrogant) when he was running the RX7's. However, his commentary was superb, lacking polish maybe but really informative.
As for Mitchells comment about Brett being like "doug", gimme a break - that guy really can write, and yes I am looking, studying and poaching his style(lol)
