OK in this week's AUTO ACTION there headline was about trimmimg the fat from V8 team's cost's through control item's and specification's along with further restriction's aimed at cutting cost's.
The idea i have for this topic is all hypothetical. You are AVESCO what changes would you implement to
#1 Improve the racing
#2 Make it easier to overtake
#3 Reduce cost's associated with the race weekend
#4 Reduce the cost of building the car's
#5 Reduce the cost's of running the team

Easy:

Look at what NASCAR do and copy it.
All of it bar the oval racing.

I watched the NASCAR race fron Richmond and it was dam exciting. As have all of the NASCAR races this year.
Thay race and pass and entertain.

That is what i want supercars to do....

#1 I would let you use 2 set's of tyre's for the weekend.
One set would be a hard compound the other set a soft qualifying type compound. We would still have the compulsory pitstop. You would then use the soft set for qualifying obviously, and then they must be used in the race at some stage. When you use them is up to you.So you can start on the soft set and finish with the hard or start on the hard and finish on the soft
#2 I would paint a line 20 metre's long starting from the first part of the radius of the corner 3.5 metre's away from the inside of that next corner. The idea of this line is if someone is trying to overtake you when you are under brake's you must not be over that line blocking the overtaking driver. You can block him before that line start's but put a wheel on it and you've just earnt yourself a drive through
#3 Reduce the amount of data collected by reducing the amount of sensor's allowed on the car's. This would make it more seat of the pant's feedback to the engineer's rather than what a computer tell's them
#4 I would make the team's use more factory item's and less carbon fibre in places where it really isn't needed.I would ban those ridiculous HRT steering wheel's with more light's than Sydney.
#5 Open for suggestion's on this one

what is the average cost of running a top line team for a year does anyone know? with the sport growing and more sponsors/ fans jumping on board, will cutting current costs be such an issue? the idea of maintaining and not increasing costs is a big one though. bigcol, i like the tyre idea.

I fairly sure that the top team's don't want people knowing how much there budget is.
I think that the administrator's are trying to catch it before it end's up like the milk and juice ( 2 litre ) BTCC, where the cost's even had the manufacturer's crying.
I think it's a move in the right direction, instead of having a half dozen super competitive car's, amagine what it would be like if you had 32 car's capable of winning the race.
You'd have some serious rubbing happening there.

bigcol I like the ideas not sure about the tyres but it could make it just like the old days.
What about the composlary pit stops. Soon as the pace car comes out they all pit.
What about a cap on how much money can be spent on the cars?

that is the ultimate dream! anything that moves the sport toward that is a good thing, anything that doesn't, lose it. it really would be about best on the day.

How good would that be.
13 round's 10 or 11 different winner's and 10 or 12 car's capable of winning the championship at the last round

How big would the crowd be and how exciting the last round would be?

I don't think you could put a salary cap on what the team's spend on car.
We hear talk about how they are going to regulate the car's more.Well all this will do is make it even more processional.
To get away from follow the leader 2 thing's have to be done.
Either widen the goat track's that they run on or bring in even more variable's , like compulsory pitstop's.
This is why i like the idea of two differnet types of rubber

Allow a 2nd control tyre company. When they made it so all cars ran on the same tyres Ford stopped winning.

Ford stopped winning after 200mm was cut off the undertray not when they went to a control tyre.
Project Blueprint has equaled the downforce front and rear on both the BA and the VY and we have had a lot more competitive racing with Ford winning last year's championship and a good chance to win this year's
