Hi all,

Here are some photos I took in at the 1985 Endurance race at Oran Park. If memory corrects me it was the day that the front left hub broke and the wheel came off.

Hope you enjoy.

Cheers

Great photos again, thanks for sharing.

The one thing I hated about the green Mustang days was the racing suit that Dick wore back then, those green boots [pk], I still think it's the worst I've seen. :D

A very pretty little car that one, and from Oran Park 85 thru to the end of the year, quick!

Wonder how it would go with a current spec 5l?

Here is some perspective for you Gerry;

*At Bathurst in 1985 Dick was doing 2:26's about 10 laps into the race on a full tank.
*At Bathurst in 2011 the leaders were into the 2:10's early in the race.

This makes the '85 spec Mustang 16 seconds a lap slower than the current spec V8SC.

Further to this, the Chase was added to Conrod in 1987 which increased lap times by 4.5 seconds. This therefore makes the mustang 20.5 seconds per lap slower than today's cars.

So if Dicks 1985 Ford Mustang raced at Bathurst in 2011, the leaders would have lapped it after approximately 6.5 laps which means it would have finished the race approximately 25 laps down on Garth Tander.

Amazing how times have changed so much.

Would be difficult to know how it would perform with a current spec V8. It had little aero by today's standards and there have been so many other technical gains since then that it would be hard to quantify. Would love to see it though :)

it might be instructive to look at comparitive lap times between DJ in 85/86, and Glenn Seton in the Anderson Mustang, at somewhere like Lakeside....

Lets make it a fair comparison.

Take the wings off the Superfarces and make them use production brakes
Give the Mussie a current spec engine and let them both run on todays rubber
The result might suprise you
