First of all I know this is terribly trivial, but I have been looking at some Bowden pics and wonder why the front spoiler on TruBlu does not marry up to the front wheel arches - was the car like this when it raced??

Thanks for the link Doug. I don't believe it raced as shown.

It looks to me as if the top of the 'wheel arch flair' is sitting 3/4" - 1" above the line of the front guard arch?

So, it looks like the 'arch-flair' has to come down, rather than the splitter/spoiler coming up?

If you look closely at race photos that gap is there so I would say it is correct.
Mind you it's not always that big!

A bit of skull duggery perhaps?:D I seem to remember a few black Sierras that had wheel arch moulds sitting a little too high.[sh]

If you check AMC mag for the XD feature from a while back, IIRC, the gap is very obvious in the pics of her from 1983... might have a look at the 1984 Great Race book as I know there's a couple of front-on shots of her in there.

Was surprise to see a couple of plastic-looking spacers in there maintaining the gap when I looked at her a while back.

The car has not been fully restored to how it ran in the 81 Bathurst race as i understand.
Dick sold the car to Alf Grant who raced it for a year or two and then sold it back to Dick. It was repainted and stickered back to how it is today.

If you put it in the Nostalgia section you most likely would have received similar replies as the blokes who read that section are generally pretty good - it's the "be all and end all" section commonly known as V8Supercars that attracts all the wankel rotaries. :D

it's a great shot either way...

that car really deserves a resto.... the current paintwork was put on it in the late 80's/early 90's or whenever it was that DJ bought it back from Alf Grant... so the font on much of the signage - the numbers and sunstopper in particular - were more in line with what was on the Sierras at the time, rather than being authentic.

The paint on the roof is crows-footed to the umpteenth degree, the window rubbers are perished and cracked... she's not nearly as pristine as the XE... but she's a special one...
