Such tragic news. He was one of the good guys in pitlane, and taken way to soon. Such terrible news for his family before christmas.

Deepest sympathies to Jason's family and his friends.
Its always sad when a loved one passes, and harder still when one is so young and with a young family too. Definitely one of the good guys of our sport.

May he rest in peace.

RIP JR, you were one of the only guys in pit lane that everyone liked, if not THE only one, which says everything about your character and personality. Although the results might not have been there written in black and white, there is no doubt you were one of the most talented and fastest drivers out there. I'm sure there is a club up there for the racers, go and shake Senna's hand and and enjoy comparing stories with all the other guys.

Thanks for the memories.

Very sad news.

Cancer is unfortunately a disease that touches us all in one way or another, I lost my mum at a young age to it and today brought back so many memories.

My thoughts and prayers go out to his wife and young family, may he rest in peace.

Thanks for the memories Jase, you were one of the good guys.

Only the good die young..

Well said Chris. That statement just seems to prove itself over and over again....and it seems to use cancer as its method. Very sad day....a young man with a lot of talent...but more importantly, a young man with a young family and long life to lead.......my thoughts are with his family....his two little girls and their Mum!

lads...something very positive that I think is a nice legacy from Jason:

"I'm actually enjoying my racing more now than when it was fulltime. I'm doing it purely for fun, for my own emotional reasons," he said.

"I'm sucking the fun out of it. I'm just happy to be feeling like a normal heathy 35-year-old with two lovely kids and a great wife ... For me, my clarity is racing a car. It's so refreshing. If I can inspire people who have what's happening for me, that's a real positive."

What a lovely tribute this was from BJR - published in the Herald Sun today.

Team Statement

In the competitive world of V8 Supercars Jason was a rare breed – a driver that could tread the fine line between rivalry and friendship. He was never secretive, selfish or bad-tempered and had endless enthusiasm and energy for his job and team.

The history books will not do him justice. Given the right equipment JR was easily a front-runner but chose team loyalty over personal gain, determined to work with his crew to reach the front of the grid together.

Through the highs and lows of racing, JR’s uplifting presence and casual, self-effacing wit were unwavering and his effect he had on team morale is irreplaceable.

He will forever be a member of the Jones family and this is a tragic day in the team’s history.

Nothing more needs to be said really, does it. Vale Jason Richards....clearly had his head in the right place, even during the most challenging period.

Can't wait for this year to be over, a shit of a year for so many reasons. Have lost some great motor racing personalities in 2011 and to see JR bow out with cancer was just horrible.

I spent a good hour talking with Jase at Bathurst in 2010, got to send him a few of my photos via email and got some nice replies from him as well. One of the very few Holden drivers I enjoyed seeing getting a good result.

R.I.P JR.

The sentiment from the team says it all, it tells us all we need to know about the man and who he really was, what a tragic loss, I think the comparrison to baz was a pretty good one, not for the prizes but for the person they both were, universally liked,

[V]I really can't come up with words to describe how I feel or to do justice to JR. He will be missed by the whole V8 Supercar community but of course, mostly by his family. My thoughts are with them.

R.I.P. Jason Richards.

Was very sad to hear the news on Friday, One quote that sticks in my mind from Jase is "Bathurst is the only track that I eat sleep and breathe", You were one of the greatest drivers around there Jase you always drove at 110%. RIP.

R.I.P Jase.

You were in my mind an ABSOLUTE CHAMPION. Well loved by ALL your peers and fans alike Red or Blue.

Without doubt my favourite Holden driver and you will be sorely missed.

Gone but NEVER forgotten.
