Did Dick ever race a V8 Torana or Monaro. especially in the years just prior to starting with Byrts fords.

What was Dicks ride before the yellow #4 Torana XU1? I think in one of the books he mentions a HR186s was a road come race car for a period?

First race car was an FJ, as was the second... then an EH, which he ran until the LC GTR came on the scene (got the first one into the state via his old man's contacts at Eagers). It was a series proddie jobbie, and ended up with a V8 in it (and turned it into a pig... interestingly enough, it seems that this car came onto the market recently via carsales.com or something - saw a link over at 10-10ths or somewhere). He drove booth Series and Improved Proddie cars for Zupps, and then his own XU-1 (an ex-HDT car at that) until Bryan Byrt fielded the XB for Group C in 1977.

He and Jill had a 186S Monaro as a tow car at one stage (up until they had the kids IIRC), but he never had an HR racer.

Good on you Henry. When I saw your name signed on , I knew I wouldn't have to wait long for the correct answer.[bw]

I was surfing through this section and found the XU1 with a Ford V8 in it.

Henry, correct me if I am wrong but didn't DJ also drive a one off for the HDT at the old Surfers raceway??

Yes, at the ATCC round where Brock drove the SLR5000. He managed 3rd or 2nd or something IIRC... and that was his entire career as a "works" driver. There is a thread on V8Central at the moment, suggesting that Dick was quicker in the XU-1 that weekend than Brock, who had a brief pedal in it too... although Brock was presumably not chasing a time - else there may have been a bit more attention given to Queensland's Favourite Son a bit earlier...
