Marcos just announced he is stepping down from driving #17.
Scott Pye to take up drive at next round.
Hoping Scotty can continue the good work started by Marcos.[sh]

Marcos Ambrose steps down from Fulltime driving from Tassie, with Scott Pye to step in. Marcos to still do the enduros..
Doesn't make sense to me....

This doesn't make any sense to me, stepping down to get a better understanding and gain more experience, wouldn't you get that driving the car?

I am now completely bamboozled.[sh]

If they have decided that putting Scott Pye back in the car to lead the team is the right move short term, then why not try to get another REC and run a second car for Marcos and take a bit of pressure off. Could it be that Marcos is just tired of all the attention already?

I've had an hour or so to take all this and I've come to the conclusion that I still have NFI why.

Lots of rumours out there though, from family to being offered a big bucks contract to go back US for Nascar .. .

In the last hour I've had people tell me the following,

2 x Failed drug test
Infighting and politics at DJR/TP
Penske offered him a NASCAR ride in a top line car
Family not adjusting/settling as quickly to life back in Australia
Marcos has lost his desire to compete at the top level.

All these in just over an hour, none of these I would trust or claim as solid.

Yep hearing these too Peter, I have been told by a good source why, But this is the same bloke who told me SVG was heading to TPDJR next year[sa]

Maybe it's a case that he has realised that he can't handle the heat so he's getting out of the kitchen. I hope it's more complicated than that because I don't think that there are enough eggs to go around for all the faces they need to cover. WHAT A BLOODY SHAMOZLE!!

I'm struggling to work out why you would pull out of driving if you are lacking seat time.

Pretty sure most people had realistic expectations on the time it would take getting back up to speed.

Hope he's not going to pop up in the development series. Would be totally demoralising and pointless getting punted every round by an inexperienced teenager trying to make a name for themselves, wanting to claim they beat Ambrose.

There has to be more to this [sh]

Shattered.

Doesn't matter who you put in the car, be it Pye, Whincup or even Dick himself, the issues when Marcos decides he is ready to get back in the car will be the same.

I hope Roger has a few aces up his sleeve, cause I wouldn't want him back in #17 if it was my call.

A way to get a second opinion on development without burning test time? I can imagine Marcos making a call like that if he thought it'd help, particularly in the longer term.. his plans have always been longer-term ones, slightly cautious in their milestone-setting, and he's generally got pretty close to the prizes...

I hope he has no under lying health problems. Also hope what ever it is it gets sorted out asap and get him back in the car.

Maybe the one car team has bitten them on the bum really early?

well, soonest treated, soonest cured in that case. I wouldn't doubt that Marcos would vote someone else into the car to see what it can do, especially when EVERYBODY involved has repeatedly stated that this year's about building... if #17 flounders around down the back at Symmons, it's a little harder to blame Marcos' lack of currency in the car, and fans and team engineers alike have to recognise it. So much better if they had a real recognised Gun to slot in, rather than a guy with alleged potential, who may or may not be as good as everybody seems to think he could become... Still, if it means that he can retain or return to the seat later in the year, or into one of the two cars next year, and come out blazing, it'll look to have been a bloody masterstroke... if that's what is actually going on....

I have spoken today to the owner of Mustang Sally. He told me Ambrose has been finding it difficult to set the car up, this being made more difficult by not having a second car in the team. He said the reason for his pace on the Sunday at Clipsal was thanks to a setup provided by Prodrive Australia.

He said the rules need tweeking to allow guys to practice, especially when they have not driven these cars for a long time. Its unrealistic to expect him to jump in and be fast. He also mentioned that he felt Ambrose was only half hearted about rejoining the series but did say the decision to step down was 100% Ambrose decision.

Maybe he just wants to avoid being interviewed by Grey Murphy again!

Time will tell.

Correct, although to add to this, he was finding it difficult to set the car up with the lack of skills of the current engineers. Lets face it, if DJR's engineers were any good would they be still working at DJR. Hopefully the Penske money will attract some skilled personnel before the end of the year.
