A way to get a second opinion on development without burning test time? I can imagine Marcos making a call like that if he thought it'd help, particularly in the longer term.. his plans have always been longer-term ones, slightly cautious in their milestone-setting, and he's generally got pretty close to the prizes...
well, soonest treated, soonest cured in that case. I wouldn't doubt that Marcos would vote someone else into the car to see what it can do, especially when EVERYBODY involved has repeatedly stated that this year's about building... if #17 flounders around down the back at Symmons, it's a little harder to blame Marcos' lack of currency in the car, and fans and team engineers alike have to recognise it. So much better if they had a real recognised Gun to slot in, rather than a guy with alleged potential, who may or may not be as good as everybody seems to think he could become... Still, if it means that he can retain or return to the seat later in the year, or into one of the two cars next year, and come out blazing, it'll look to have been a bloody masterstroke... if that's what is actually going on....Maybe the one car team has bitten them on the bum really early?
I have spoken today to the owner of Mustang Sally. He told me Ambrose has been finding it difficult to set the car up, this being made more difficult by not having a second car in the team. He said the reason for his pace on the Sunday at Clipsal was thanks to a setup provided by Prodrive Australia.
He said the rules need tweeking to allow guys to practice, especially when they have not driven these cars for a long time. Its unrealistic to expect him to jump in and be fast. He also mentioned that he felt Ambrose was only half hearted about rejoining the series but did say the decision to step down was 100% Ambrose decision.
Maybe he just wants to avoid being interviewed by Grey Murphy again!
Time will tell.
